Oil Leak.
well of course it's going to be leaking when it's running because it's pumping the oil throughout the engine as opposed to it being off and all the oil sitting in the oil pan.
is it leaking a lot or is it a small slow drip?
Oil has a lot of places it could be leaking from.
look under the car and see the approximate location the oil is coming from. open the hood and look around.
typical places for oil to be leaking from...
valve cover gasket - anywhere around the valve cover
distributor o-ring - look under the distributor
oil pressure sending unit - on the back of the block above the oil filter
oil pan gasket - anywhere around the oil pan
cam/balance shaft/crank seals - all located behind timing belt covers, look at the bottom of the lower cover for oil leaking out

Don't forget the dreaded main crank seal on the transmission end of the engine. IF the engine is really dirty and/or oily, take it to a self serve car wash and clean the engine compartment top and bottom. After it is clean and dry, it will be easier to trace the leak. The oil will tend to drain down and back, so follow the leak trail up and forward.
