Please tell me there is another way to fix this....????
Last night as i was leaving my girlfriends house i heard a noise so i got out and popped the hood to see what was wrong and the part where my motor mount connects to my block has broke off the block, please say there is another way to fix this other than replacing the block? i dont know if it matters but it is a d16y8 in a 1998 Honda civic ex
if the block has actually broken then it is repairable. BUT not just any welder can weld cast iron. and a smaller percentage of those can weld it strong enough for a motor mount.
uh honda blocks are not cast iron....so if the block is broken you will have to find someone willing to weld aluminum If its just the mount its self then yes it is cast iron and you are better off replacing it cast iron is s bitch to weld correctly.

no it is the actual block that is broke and yes i have talked to the guy and he said that it would cost 500 and i could just bring the car to him and he could do the rest which would be pull the motor and take it to a person that can weld aluminum and they would fix it, do you think that this sounds reasonable or should i say the right thing to do?
I would see if you can find someone else to do the work maybe with the engine in the car. It would save you a ton of work and money not having to pulling the engine. If thats not an option you might be better off finding a used motor the only run a few hundred to pick up
yeah i would if it was just a stock motor, but it is a fully built d16 and i was about to put a crower stage 2 cam in it and that would complete it and then soon i was thinking of a small shot of nitrous because it was built for nitrous. i was going to do a 75 shot because it was built for a 150 shot
one thing though i have a d16z6 in my backyard, it is just that i dont really want to swap all my pistons and rods over to that motor and everything because this is a y8 and it is bored .20 over and all that good jazz
but you see i have never done anything like that and this is my daily driver and i dont want to mess anything up
well my uncle has a tow company and he towed me to the place that he thought would do us right, i guess you could say, but idk if i want to spend 500 bucks to get that **** fixed
i just talked to my mechanic and i think i might go drag racing style and they are going to fix the top one and we are going to chain that mother ****er in there and strap it to where it aint moving at all.....it is worth a try atleast rather than spending 500 bucks
Eh you should do it right. Dont do some ghetto stuff. A few hundred is nothing in the long run. I would get a new block. Yeah it sucks but its the best way to do it. Stuff happens.
500 hundred sounds steep to me but i guess if you are paying them to pull the engine take it apart and weld or replace the block then its not. it sounds to me like you have a little exp working on this car why not save yourself a boat load of cash and pull the engine yourself and take the block in to be fixed
