Default OBX ITBs

Ok, so I am pretty sure I know the answer to this question, but... I have seen these on ebay for $830 shipped, which is close to the intake setup I am looking at (S2 IM, some TB, and Weapon R secret weapon). My engine is a 93 B18A1. It is stock... very stock. I am in the process of doing an all motor build, (Don't try to talk me into boosting it, or tell me "Oh you need VTAK Yo!") So the question is...

Are they worth it?

And yes, I will be tuning after whatever setup I decide on.

In most cases including yours, absolutely not. They are expensive, hard to set up and tune, especially for the novice person and you'd need to change your build quite a bit to benefit from ITB's vs using an IM and TB setup.

Well I'm doing P30s, Crower 404s, lightweight pulleys stuff like that. I'm not getting too crazy with it (more so than most LS motors though ). I'm taking it to a very reputable shop to get it tuned though.

Oh and any recommendation on the TB? I have looked around but can't make up my mind.

if you do a search there is a thread on the obx itbs. A few guys were thinking about getting them and dyno testing them. if i remeber right there was a guy that bought them and had some pics.

EDIT: Found the link https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/obx-itbs-2219288/

ok sure... if you don't wanna go fast. You're gonna be dissapointed as hell that you wasted $900 for 10 whp.

just saying from experience, vtak, boost, or bust.

just saying

I'm not against ITB's if your building the motor with supportings mods, its your money. From what I've read here on HT, the OBX's are knock-offs of the Toda's but less overall quality (Im assuming) for what your paying.

Me personally, if I decided to go ITB's I'd look into Jenvey's or Hayward's.

They're the same thing, Bro. Hayward just modifies Jenveys, as far as I understand.

OP, you need to have supporting mods to go with ITBs. ITBs are really the icing on the cake of a well-put-together NA build.....not something you'd slap on a pretty much bone stock B18A.

In that link that i posted it said someplace in there that they were made in the same factory as the Toda's. Not sure of the facts behind that and that they actually sell for 3x more in Japan than what they do here in the states.

Put it this way

THe last LS motor we did which was pretty mild was

LS BLock and Head

Crower 404s and valvetrain

CTR Pistons

JDM DC 4-1 Header

SKunk2 Intake manifold

and it made like 160whp. It was a fun little EG, and it had a nice broad curve when compared to a GSR we had done .

BUt the GSR was STOCK like BONE STOCK.

The last LSVTEC I did that was pretty much stock head stock motor made 165whp (stock VTEC cams, head, intake manifold stock LS BLock, Hytech replica header)

for $830 you could buy a STOCK GSR head, and make the same power with ALOT more room to grow.

But if you must stay LS, i would spend the $830 on a B16 Transmission that will make your car ALOT faster than ITBs ever would

hmmm, now that I did not know. I'll have to take a closer peek at them, if so then I guess I just have likeing for the Jenvey design.

Ok, so no ITBs for me. And yes, I must stay LS, and all motor. I'm aiming for 180 whp. I am going to prt and polish the head though. They flow pretty terrible so I hope that gets me up over 160. But I'm a good bit away from actually being able to do that. First I have to completely rewire my DA and get an exhaust and intake.

So I looked around a little(prior to this I had no knowledge of the P8R head). Now what, if any, problems will I have when using a P8R head with a B18A1 block?
