Default ZC motor swap

ok so i have a 96 honda civic hatchback i bought a while back, the motor started to make a real loud knocking sound and has gotten worse over time, the last day i drove it it started cutting out & backfiring a little so i decided its prob. time to just throw a new motor in it. I did not want to fiddle around trying to fix the problem since the motor seemed to burn some oil over time & i do not know how many miles are on it because it has an SI gauge cluster (its not an SI) & this is my daily driver so i needed something reliable.

I went to a japanese engine shop thats in my area & purchased a ZC 1.6 SOHC which is supposed to be the replacement for my car. the only difference is the fuel system seems to look differnt than what was originally in my car.

The air box does not sit on top like my old one it looks like the intake is supposed to come from the side. Does it matter? I heard you have to change over all the emissions items from your old motor to the new.

Here are the pictures of my old motor.

This is just a picture i foudn online, im not at home right now or i would of taken a picture.
My motor looks like this basically with same fuel system setup but without the red valve cover & headers, etc.

Guy at work said my new motor could be out of an older car & possibly have less power? he was not 100 percent sure.

looks like a either a D16Z6, SOHC Vtec ZC (both 125 hp) or JDM D15B Vtec (128hp)

Edit, is it a vtec engine? it may or may not be an OBD1 engine, pics of your actual engine will tell me pretty quick one way or the other though.

i have never seen the non-vtec zc sohc thats in your car unless its an inside custom job. U can jus run your y7 intake manifold if you want. if you use the 92-95 manifold you can wire up the intake air temp sensor thats stickin out of your stock airbox to the one on the new manifold or jus leave your old one danglin. 92-95 u have to change your idle air control plug from 3 to 2 wire and pull the orange wire at the ecu.

Yes, but you will need the stock airbox and intake piping from a '96 - '00 EX, or a short ram intake for the same, or a cold air intake for the same.
