Formula 1 opener
I apologize, as i know there is a thread, but this is an invitation for anyone in the chicago area. We will be open at www.chicagoindoorracing.com in addison for the race this weekend. Some arrive and drive racing will be available late in the evening and then the bar will be open with all the tv's on the race.
Meh, I didn't realize you guys were so close to me. What time does the race air this weekend? Or I guess what time will people start showing up?
I don't have Speed Channel so I usually just download the torrents so forgive me for not keeping up on the time schedules.

You guys will love the new place. CIR Addison opened on October 31 2008, the 5 year anniversary of Buffalo Grove's opening! Same karts, timing and safety equipment - completely different track layouts.
FYI, here is the email that was sent out:
I’d like to invite you to join the staff of Chicago Indoor Racing to watch the Formula 1 season opener in Australia this coming Saturday, March 28th at our Addison location. Last year we drew a crowd of 80+ formula 1 fans to enjoy the race together at Buffalo Grove - nowhere else will you stand amongst a larger crowd of likeminded Formula 1 fans other than at one of the races themselves. This year’s party will move to Addison due to its central location and greater number of TVs and viewing areas.
The kitchen will stay open until the green flag flies and the bar will serve beverages until the race is over.
We will be showing the race in high def on every display in the house and the sound will be on!
Pre-race coverage on Speed begins at 12:30am Central time. The race begins at 1:00 am central time (Saturday night/Sunday morning) and will likely be over by 2:30.
If you would like to do some racing to get yourself in the mood prior to the start of the Grand Prix, we still have limited availability. I highly recommend pre-booking an event with us as we are nearly sold out for the evening. You can book a Grand Prix (3 x 15 lap qualifiers and a 30 lap final) for $70 per person or a Mini Grand Prix (2 x 15 lap qualifiers and a 25 lap final) is just $60 per person. This way you reserve your spot on the track and chose who you want to race with…. For the hard core racers there is also a Super Grand Prix for $90 per person (3 x 25 lap qualifiers and a 40 lap final). Arrive and drive races might be available to those booking on Saturday morning on a first come-first served basis. If you would like to pre-book any one of the Grand Prix events for a minimum of 8 racers please call Misty or Sarah at 847.433.3710 as soon as possible!
Please just hit reply and let me know if you are planning to attend. If you know anyone who would like to attend but may not have received this e-mail please forward it along. The invite is open to any fan of Formula 1 who wants to enjoy the race live and have a great time.

Hope to see you guys there!
Brian.
So does it cost to just come and watch the race at the bar? If not then do I just show up. Seems like a really awesome idea to watch some F1 with motorsport fans.
Hmm...I am tempted to come. My GF lives in Chicago, and I had planned on spending the weekend there and watching the race at home Sunday night. Perhaps I can convince her to stay up on Sat night!
GF gave me the
and will be coming with me! I sent out an e-mail to 10 friends so perhaps it will be more.
I got her hooked on F1 last season (a good one for drama), were both super excited about this season.
Should we get HT badges?

Most of the European/Med/Mid-East races will take place -early- sunday morning, usually around 4-6am. Just wondering if you will be hosting a get together for all the races or just this one?
Brawn GP is my pick. Even if they don't win, Rubens or Jensen, I will be stoked for a top 5 finish!
So I went to the indoor racing event last night, and while the service and staff was really nice I probably wouldn't go back. I couldn't hear any of the commentary because the speaker system was two tiny 5" speakers in the ceilings near, but not always above the TV's. I had to move to a totally secluded part of the room to actually hear anything, and even that was sub par. The main bar volume seemed to be good later on in the race, but by then there were no places to sit.
Perhaps if you have another event add some speakers even if you have to rent them. 90% of the people there after 1am were there for the race and I heard almost everyone at some point say "I can't hear anything"

I would agree with this. I also really couldnt hear much unless i really paid attention. It was a good experience though. Never been there before. Now want to go and run the karts, lol.
I had a hard time hearing a lot of the commentary as well. I was lucky though and got there early and got a spot at the bar. We asked the bar tender to turn it up too and that seemed to help but still missed most of the commentary.
I would go back to watch the race because none of my friends are into F1 and its nice to meet like-minded people. That and I've always wanted to see what the place was like...
