Head gasket on 2000 accord 2.3l sohc
well as this winter was just getting over i took a 4 hour drive and was going quite fast for a long period of time . AND MILKSHAKE DOOM OIL STICK when i got home.
=D oops..
- degrese Plus XXX mph no good.
i just started the tare down after a local honda dealer told me 1800$ for a new head gasket and timing belts ... i told them ill buy the parts and do it myself thx.
400 dollers on new parts that i needed
i started the tare down on it sunday .... went good for the most part... but we ran in to some issues, to start the engine from what we could see had never been taken apart b4. ... GOOD / noo good... the exhaust manifold was the first issue .. the heat shield bolts were so rusted that 2 of them just sheared off .. also the engine braket for the manifold TOTALY sheared off the block when we tried to losen it. oops.... other than that it looked ok...
i will post pictures of my intake manifold to show u how black and nasty it was ... along with the block and exhaust manifold soon
our next problem was the crankshaft pulley bolt today ..... 181 ft lb of torque ... REALLY HONDA REALLY .. ON A SELF TIGHTINING BOLT... REALY .. THX HONDA
well i had to go rent a impact that was capible of 750 ft lbs ...it took the gun on full setting in 3 days of pb blaster and psi on gun 120... our last attempt was when it came lose .. other wise we were gona quit for the day...
once we got it off we checked timing all perfect. took the head off... it looked ok no over heat marks or major cracks from eye sight. taking it in to get resurfaced / what ever the guy recomends to do.
this is where i am at atm.
i was planing on puting a aem air intake on it for sure. 250$
i was looking to buy a decent exhaust mainifold set up SS / no ceramic..
mabe also full exhaust system would like some imput on this ...
pictures coming soon
