Default Official:97-99 acura CL TECH thread

This thread is for technical stuff only, this is not a post a pic of your cl thread.

I bought a 97 2.2 cl last year as a daily, so far I've done brakes and rotors on all 4 corners plus calipers on the rear. Fixed the egr code and secondary o2 sensor, and of course the driver side window regulator which had to be readjusted today and drove me f'in crazy.

Also a new stock catback exhaust.

I know the first gen cls are basically accords but there are certain things that are a little different, I.E the fluttering noise at low speeds unique to cls due to the mirrors, the constantly failing window regulators, and the seat cables, among other things. So I hope this thread stays open and everyone contributes.

After two hours with the driverside window today I got it to work decent and then greased the **** out of it and now its works good(for now).

If anyone has any questions specific to the 97 2.2cl I have the helms and an alldata subscription so I'll help out wherever I can.

Next for me with 184k is the timing and countershaft belts, waterpump, tensioners etc. That should make for a great saturday. And the damn AC doesn't work which is really why I bought the car so I gotta do that soon also.

The CL is actually a very capable platform and shares many underpinnings with the 94-97 accord. A few of us have swaps and everything lol.

A couple things I've had to watch out with my CL is i've had to replace the rusting exhaust on both of the 2 I've owned, also the window regulator, and the damn stock radio not working. Other than that and routine maintenance cars have been a pleasure to own. H-series motors fit right in and the F22/23 are great for boost.

Absolutely, I know the h22 swaps right in, just like in an accord, I got mine for a comfy daily to keep nice and stock. If I was gonna put a h22 in anything it'd be a eg(I know its played out). Considering what I paid for mine I'm happy so far except with the windows, acura should have issued a recall for that disaster.

Also any advice on the radius rod bushings, mine are groaning over every speed bump so thats another thing I have to do. They need to be greased and maybe replaced.

Get an energy suspension bushing kit to replace them all and lube them up, it helps alot.

Yeah the auto trannies are notorious for tranny failures, which absolutely sucks. I only like manual cars anyway though, so I'm safe lol.

I'm doing a major tune up on mine right now but I got sorta lazy with the pics.

So far I'm doing the water pump(which took a ****) timing belt, balance belt, both tensioners and all the seals on the front of the motor and adding the balance shaft seal retainer. I got held up because the last guy who did the timing belt apparently broke the cam gear trying to hold it with a screwdriver and it had a real shitty weld on it. So I decided to buy a new one from majestic since it was only twenty bucks.

on top of that im doing all the basic stuff such as new valve cover gasket and upper spark plug seals, new thermostat, new cap, rotor and wires, a valve adjustment, trans fluid change, fuel filter, coolant flush and new coolant.

I also ordered all the front strut bar bushings and new radius rod bushings.

The timing belt stuff is done but I have to take it apart real quick again since I decided to replace the cam gear.

If you guys have any questions on this stuff while it's fresh in my head I'll be glad to help out if I can. Car is a 97 2.2 with 188k.
