Default b16 tranny bad?

my friend has a b16 swapped eg. he is selling his tranny to get a gsr tranny. i want to know a few things before i buy it. one night he went to run a k20 integra from a 40 and when he went to go to 3rd in went into 1st. now he can put it in 1 while do like 40+mph. also it grinds third gear a little bit. and i was wondering if i put the lucas tranny stuff in it will it clear that 3rd gear grind up. but my man concern is that 1st gear blocker thing. thanks in advance.

I don't think any type of transmission fluid/treatment is going to fix a grind or not going into gear problem. It my experience it may fix a notchy or rough shift but it usually comes back after a 1000 miles. Its going to need a rebuild for sure.

penzoil syncromesh does work... as long as its not a terribly bad grind. i used it in my b16 trans before last summer. and now i only get the occasional 3rd gear grind.

but ya 40mph downshifts into 1st are no good. :/
