Timing belt....Gates blue or OEM
Ive been reseaching and with any high compression motor its going to put alot more wear and tear on the timing components.
I have a b18cR with ctr pistons...compression will be in the 12's for sure.
I am trying to decide on a timing belt. I hear people swearing by OEM and others saying that the Gates blue racing belt or Greddy belt is stronger.
Wanted to know your imput on the comparsion between the stock OEM timing belt and the gates blue or greddy.
Looking for some good info here

OEM is just fine.
My fully built LSV 12:1 compression on nitrous has had no issues for two years now daily driven.
For something such as timing belt, I wouldn't gamble on a non-OEM part. You're not even making power where you should question the strength of ur timing belt.

Compression hardly matters for that, your cams don't turn your crank, it's the other way around. People use greddy or toda belts because they have way stronger springs, after-market camshafts, or rev to 10k+.
Using a HIGHLY reputable company like GATES is not "gambling." Gates has been making belts for years with a quality second to none.
The blue belts are for engines that turn HIGH RPMs with big cams and stiff springs.
If you're relatively stock, I'd go with the regular Gates belt or one from the Honda dealership...whichever is cheaper.
When talking about belts, if it's Gates or GoodYear Gatorback, you're not sacrificing ANY quality of the materials by using them instead of what you get from the dealership!
Can't go wrong w/ them.
I know builders that will use OEM belts on customers' builds b/c customers demand it. But ask them straight up....and they would NEVER hesitate to use a Gates belt from AutoZone or O'Reilly's. They just do that as a "cover their ***" measure. It gives the customer nothing to bitch about. When in reality, there's no valid argument against Gates belts....and MULTIPLE arguments FOR them.

I have a stock B18CR and used a Greddy timing belt. Its better than OEM and I believe in overkill when it comes to Belts, clutches, hoses and brakes.
Always better too much than not enough.

greaddy timing belt is not better then OEM i am yet to see a need to use anything other then OEM on the timing belt even eggum ran OEM timing belt running in the 7s
Really? I am sure OEM is adequate for any build but what if I love blue?
I have yet to see a need for many of the things we do. My dime, my time, my way.
I was stating my opinion which I am entitled to.
Thanks for the pointless rebuttal.

lol you act like i put you down or something and i did not do that but why do you get to put your opinion then call mine a pointless rebuttal i stated fact so it was far from a pointless rebuttal it was all fact and my opinion now do i care if he buys a Gates blue or OEM timing belt no i do not i didn't say anything bad about them i just said oem will work fine
you said the Greddy timing belt Its better than OEM with no proof and i put proof that the oem will work fine with no problems on a 1500 hp car I'm just stating facts why spend extra money on aftermarket when you can use oem now if you want to pay more for a blue timing belt go right ahead thats up to you we do not even sell timing belts i was just trying to help the op not to spend extra money when he didn't need to

Im sure you could make 1500HP with stock cam gears also.
who cares?
I simply stated what I did and why "I" did it.
I dont care if he uses his shoe strings as a timing belt. To each his own.
lol and you said i made a pointless rebuttal lol what do you call this and you said (((I have a stock B18CR and used a Greddy timing belt. Its better than OEM ))) all i tried to do is save the op some money so he can spend on other things I'm not trying to make a sale in any way just trying to help save money for the op in this messed up economy

I think you are a bit retarded. Was Obama referring to you during his Jay Leno appearance? Golden Eagle is pointing out that you stated the Greddy belt is better but with no support. Your own post:
Now that you've been called out on ur statement, you're dancing around it.
What? you just contradicted yourself.
Anyways, to the op, OEM is fine, if you want a colored timing belt, then the gates racing which is blue is also fine, its still cheaper than a greddy.

Greddy says the belt is better so contact them and bitch about it. I simply stated I used it.
I dont know anyone making a trillion HP with a Greddy belt and Im ok with that.
"Engineered to increase heat-resistance, flexibility and durability, GReddy Extreme Timing Belts reduce the chances of cracking from heat, inconsistent timing from stretching and skipping or snapping. Improvements in materials and construction lead to a more reliable belt that will be more consistent and last longer."
Get over it sweetheart,

Alright well finally we got it out of you. You think it's better because Greddy says it's better.
Thanks!
OEM seems to be the way....
GOLDEN EAGLE------with my setup...and CTR pistons im ganan be mid 12s....the motor was bought from japan and i dont know if it was milled or decked etc...do you think i should go with a bit thicker HG like a cometic 0.04 to drop it slightly just to make sure?
I know you may say just measure the deck height etc...but I live in The Bahamas and I am only in the states for the next few weeks. We have nothing back in the islands so i need to buy parts while i am over here.

Get over yourself Dark_Teg....you quote a piece of marketing as your "proof" that it's a better quality belt? you're hilarious...
You put your foot in your mouth, get called out on it and now everyone is being an E-thug? Your attitude has all but eliminated any hope of anyone respecting anything you'll ever post on this site again.
Please forgive me for thinking a Greddy belt is good stuff and lets move on.
