Default question about tranny and drive axles

I just recently installed a transmission from japan on my 1996 honda accord ex vtec. there were a few things different such as the speed meter and the flex plate but that was easily fixed. I reached the problem when i tried to install the driveaxles. I can only seem to be able to get them to slide only halfway into the tranny. there is about an inch gap still. i was wondering if you need different axles for the jdm tranny or if im just bein dumb and need to better align the snap ring

any ideas?
