check engine ligt, gas cap?
so my check engine light came on this morning going to work, now I don't know a lot about cars but I'm assuming this one isn't real serious cuz my 5th gen lude drives normal and fine. Nothing noticable, wondering, maybe a bad o2 sensor?
Who knows....my friend (who is a technicial for Lexus) says check my gas cap. I did get gas yesterday afternoon so I checked it and it was on fine. But then I looked down and something didn't look right...(I'll do my best t oexplain), isn't there supposed to be like a little metal flap that is closed covering the hole on the filler neck where the gas pump nozzle goes?
I can't tell it jsut doesn't look right and now my memory is bad...can anyone post pics up of what the filler neck looks like (with the gas cap off)....unless this makes sense to anyone. I tried to explain this to my friend by texting (not very good). Tomorrow he's gonna see what check engine code its throwing off and then reset the check engine light and go from there....I'm confused!

go to murrays or any parts store and most of them will let you borrow a scanner. first step to fixing it would be finding out the code. if its an evap code, yes, the first step would be to replace your gas cap.
My 5th gen is pulling codes for multiple cylinder mis fire and egr and I've spent money to replace the plugs and wires with ngk, and oem cap/rotor, sea foamed the gas/pcv and cleaned the egr and that **** still comes on.
I know the cel comes on for some stupid stuff too, I'd get it checked out asap just in case.

I've recently got CEL 90. Evaporative Fuel something something leak. Gas cap. Happened before and I swapped with a used cap from my hatch. Now it's back. Bought one new from honda 15$.
yeah I'm confused, the gas cap is brand freakin' new (almost). I had to buy a new one from Honda maybe 6 months ago s oI doubt its that. But who knows, my friend is looking at it tomorrow...

Get the code checked, that will tell you were to start looking, have a code problem on my 4th abs and that has helped me figure out what to do next.
an evap code is usually a because of a leak (dont think ive seen any others) and in that case you always start with the gas cap. if it still comes on after that, you can take it to a shop and have them use a fog machine on it to locate the leak. not sure how much that costs but thatll help find your leak.

Nah, no bosch, it turned on within 24 hrs of driving it off the lot and the dealership says its the aftermarket parts. If it was the header or the exhaust it would be pulling an emisions code like the last 2 cars i had with an aftermarket header. Never buy a used car in virginia, especialy if your military.
well found out hte problem...bad cat!
I look at it like this, the car is a '99 so it's 10 years old and its the original cat. Time for a new one...
