Default New second gen

So I know everyone here are mostly 4th and 5th gen guys, but i figure i could ask anyway.

I'm about to pick up an 84 prelude w/ 207k on the original motor. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as far as maintenance on the motor goes to make it last a little longer. New to carbureted motors/antique cars.

If you have no idea of the sevice history of your new 2nd gen. Then i would recommend you give it a major service either yourself or if your not confident by a mechanic you trust. I would replace your timing belt, new filters (air, fuel, oil), new spark plugs, new oil & coolant, inspect all your belts for wear, inspect your brakes and suspension, and tune to specs. And basically give everything a good look over for any weak links. That should hold the motor in good stead to give you alot of years of reliable daily driving. My 2nd gen had 400k + kms on the clock when i sold it and it was extremely reliable. I clocked 160k while i had it and apart from routine servicing i only had to replace the clutch, timing belt and of course pad and disks. If your low on cash i would at least give it a minor service and attend to other repairs when you save the money. Hope thats of some help.

I wouldnt put anymoney into it untill you know its full condition. I'd take it to a trusted mechanic first, (which is what you usually do before you buy a car :D) and see if its worth sinking a crap load of money into firstly. I'd check to see if the timing belt etc. has been replaced recently for sure at minimum. Everything blackcatt mentioned was good ideas to check/replace.
