When engine goes idle, power steering almost non existent
Hello!
Since I've owned my 2007 Accord EX-L V6 6sp, it has had a weird problem of "almost" losing it's power steering when the engine goes to idle. It happens most when pulling into a parking space or making a sharp 90 degree turn while moving.
I usually am in the process of downshifting when this happens. If I keep RPMs up (around 900 or more) while turning, there is no problem whatsoever.
So I had a thought about just adjusting the idle mechanism upwards from the 600 level it's at. However, I didn't see how to do that in the manual. I was reading that there is a process which I completely understand....I just can't find the right things to adjust.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice or pics on what I can change to make the problem dissappear?
Thanks in advance!

If I keep the RPMs up (around 900 or more) while turning, there is no problem". So in that scenario, the pump seems fine. The car is no longer under warranty.
Is there a way to adjust the idle?

if their is no idle adjustment screw on the t/b then it is controlled thru the pcm. is the power steering pressure switch hooked up ?
sounds like a trip to honda may be in order.unless you have a hds and can check for pcm updates.

I'm just unclear as to how to explain the perfectly working powersteering when above 800-900 rpm.....would seem that the pump is working when rpms are only slightly higher. For example, sitting in the driveway, it is difficult to turn the wheel.....slightly step on the gas to 800-900 rpms or so, and it works fine. I am at a loss as to the explanation for that.
Replacing the powersteering pump as a first resort doesn't make sense to me at this point especially since it's out of warranty primarily and not cheap secondarily.
well i would look at the pump and also the pressure switch to get a better idea of whats going on.it sounds like the p/s psi switch is not applying the load control that is needed.
Like said several times before I would swap out the ps pump. I know you dont think thats it since it works fine at higher rpms but it could be losing efficiency. Raising the idle is kinda like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. My g/f's PS pump on her 05 V6 whines when she starts it on cold mornings. She has about 65K miles. The PS pump in these cars apperntly sucks.

im a mechanic in alabama and i have ran into a couple of other cars where the rack is the source of the problem. same problem rev it a little works fine and loose all power at idle. but never seen this issueon a honda, i have replaced alot of p/s pumps though.
