What kind of trans fluid???
i was lookin at redline or synchromesh? i got a b16 trans that has a slight grind on 3rd gear on my b16 w/ all bolt-ons so im not pushin POWER! im replacing my clutch so that might fix the prob so i was wondering what kind fluid i should run?
Before Honda had their own engineered MTF they used regular non-detergant 10w-30 motor oil. 10w-30 is just fine for your B16 transmission.
Some people swear up and down that Syncromesh or Honda MTF "fixed" their transmission grinds. I have tried both and noticed no difference.
All in all, if a different lubricant helps with the grinding, it is just masking the underlying problem - worn syncros.

Syncromesh does make the tranny shift a little smoother, but I had to look a while until I found out Advance Auto has it. Or like mcvtec mentioned, Honda MTF and standard ND 10W-30.
I believe the Honda manual transmission fluid has more anti-wear additives then straight motor oil. I would stick with it. I have the same problem with a B16 trans, grinds 1-2 shift if your into the Vtec. From everything I've read the synchros are weak. Going to dive in this summer.
Need to figure out which type are best.

Directly from a Certified Honda Tech. Honda Manual Trans fluid is 10w-30 oil with an addative in it. However, he runs a synthetic 10w-30 in all of his race cars, with no failures that is fluid related.
I used 1 quart of synchromesh and the rest I put synthetic 10w-30. Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. Works great in my B16. Better protection than the less viscous Honda Manual Tranny Fluid.
Today's (engine oil) 10W-30 lacks zinc. This was not so in the early 1990s. See the discussion with citations at http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/manualtrannyfluid
Trannies need zinc in the tranny oil to be effective in "extreme pressure" conditions. Hence given a choice between 10W-30 and Honda MTF, the Honda MTF is what should be used. Note that the change frequency is less using the Honda MTF as well.
