petroleum based fluids dont mix well with synthetics(you wont get all of the old fluid out). this can cause swelling of seals which end up as leaks.

i put mt90 in my old tranny and the olny thing i noticed was slightly smoother shifting when its cold, but the tranny warms up pretty quick so its a bit of a waste.

im not stuck on a brand but Honda knows what should go in their transmission so use whatever they say. remember, they designed the thing with their choice of fluid in mind..........the specific additives in their fluid will be better suited for the specific seal material used in the transmission. different weights mess with synchro engagement too. too thick an oil and the synchros wont be doing much cuz they cant come in contact with the cone. too thin an oil and the synchros contact too much wearing them prematurely.

stick with OEM.

Wait, you're worried about the classic leaky seals of synthetic? Switch over to synthetic; if it leaks, switch back. It's that easy.

why even worry about it? the transmission was designed with certain coefficients of friction based on using the OEM fluid. changing the fluid changes these frictions. which can cause poor tranmission operation or premature wear. sticking with oem means you get the best perforemance with the best life.

You're taking it a bit too far. But, it's your car, do as you wish.

penzoil syncromesh did my trans wonders. no more slight grinds and it shifts like butter.

i would definitely say get either OEM or Penzoil. I wouldn't recommend running any other kind of oil/trans fluid in a civic gear box.

not really. transmissions don't grow on trees. they are expensive. and about just switching back to normal OEM if it leaks with the synthetic. sounds like a waste of money to me. also i don't know of many seals that swell and go back to the way they were with a simple change of fluid. kinda sounds like if you start leaking you are looking to replace all the seals.

anyways back to the OP theres a good write up on how to fill a trans, basically you fill it till it comes out of the fill hole then you plug it up and are good to rock and roll. do some searching i bet you will find it. but 2.5 sounds about right.
