Default What headers and full exhaust?

I have a 97 dx with a d16y7 motor and I was just wondering what headers and exhaust you guys are running?

I just picked this car up at the beginning of the month and will be doing a b18 swap this summer but until then Id like to do the exhaust.

Thanks

Assuming that you have limited funds, if you really are going to do the b18 swap, I'd just do a cat back exhaust for now. The header you'd get for the d16 won't fit later on and you'll just end up buying another header. Besides, a header is not going to help you with that torqueless y7 motor. Just my opinion. If you have deep pockets, do what you'd like.

Techically, you can interchange the exhaust manifolds beween the Y7 and Y8 (if you move the cat) but I don't think the d-series manifolds interchange with the B18.

I noticed when searching for a set of headers that many online places only offer them for the EX. What is the difference if any between the dx and ex headers?

i hate being a picky person sometimes but i have to. these cars have one HEADER. not multiple. so its just a header, not headers or a set of headers. just header. ok......im done. please excuse my dickness.

now ill add something constructive. honestly id say wait. a good exhaust for a D16 is not going to be optimal for a B18...........too much difference in potential flow. likewise i doubt a header that will fit a D16 will fit a B18, SO my suggestion is wait, do some homework on what is good for a b18, then get that stuff when you do the swap.

believe me i know about the performance bug. i have it.....luckily there isnt a better, EASY swap than what came in my 90 GLi, so i dont have to worry about that. i have a 2-mile long list of things id like to be doing.............but its a waste until i can do it right, so ill just sit on what i have for now.

They are both the same and are interchangeable.

If you are really going to *swap* in the summer, then I highly recommend you forget about D-series header and you focus on a catback, then saving up for the B18.

Get a nice 2.25-2.5" cat back for the B18.

forget the header, save the money for your swap. id look into the apexi ws2 catback system. IMO the best system on the market

Just wait. You will be kicking yourself if you do. You can get that B18b you want for about the price of a header and exhaust (excluding ebay). If you must do one just get the cat back. It will give you some noise and you can still use it with the new motor.

if you are going to get a catback get one thats designed for the b18. the flow differences between the d16 and b18 are HUGE so an exhaust that works well with a D will not work well with the B18.
