Will my motor need a tune? (h22 w/ type s)
I'm currently rebuilding my motor with a usdm h22a4 block and the usdm h22a1 head for my 93 Prelude VTEC. Here's what I'm doing:
Block:
-Type S pistons, standard bore.
-All stock otherwise
Head:
-Titanium valves lifters retainers etc, it came like that so idk the brand or anything.
-Ported/polished
-Stock cams h22a1
Then I have I/H/E and some lightweight pulleys. So with the compression bumped up to 11:1, how will it run? It's my DD not a track car, so it just needs to be reliable. I understand I need to run premium because of the compression. If I were to tune it, is it worth the gains? I'm just getting into the Honda scene and believe me I've done a ton of searching. Thanks in advance.

in reality, just about every engine needs to be tuned. some need it more than others. in your case, the ported head drastically changes changes the airflow so it would definitely be a good idea to get tuned.
Well the head was ported before I tore it down, and it ran great. So I'm basically wondering if the different compression will change things. It kinda seems like I'm not going to be getting the most out of my motor unless I tune though.
bingo! that pretty much sums it up. motors will run. how they run is what tuning's all about.
