Power Steering fluid and other questions
Folks,
I finally had time to give my 2001 Accord a through look over and I noticed some things, I thought I would bring up and ask about.
1. I checked my power steering fluid and it was between the full and add markers (in other words it was in the area in between them that shows that the fluid level is good) while the fluid level is good as it is, I wanted to pick up some PS fluid to keep on my shelf in case I need it. Is there a Honda part number for the fluid? Can I simply buy the PS fluid from an auto parts place (like Advance, Autozone etc)?
2. Power steering reservoir: While this is in decent condition, the plastic looks like it has some crazing (i.e. plastic stress cracks) in it. I assume Honda sells this part? How much does it go for?
3. This car was bought and driven in New England for most of its life before being traded in at the local Ford dealer. The body and underside looks good and I have all the Carfax and other documents that show the car is clean.I have noticed that in the engine compartment, some of the bolts and steel parts (like the power steering reservoir bracket) have surface rust on them. Is this common on these cars with the ULEV 2.3 4 cyl? I have noticed a few engine pictures of cars on this forum (mostly of the 4th and 5th gen Accord) that they have the same type of surface rust as my car on the engine. Is this just another example of infamous rust that Honda products have on them? Will this hurt the car?
Finally, what is the name of that black rubber type clip that you put on the edge of the doors to prevent scraping off of the paint on the edges of the doors?
Thanks much
L

1)For Honda PS fluid, you definitely need a Genuine Honda PS fluid. From the dealer. The system is really sensitive.
2) I got a price from estore Honda, and it says $50? for the actual tank/resevoir? Really expensive.. =((
Door edge guard is the name you're looking for.

1) the aftermarket has this on the shelf of any auto parts store

2) a salvage yard is a good alternative for that part; but i won't sweat it since it's not leaking
3) yes, normal for vehicles in the northeast
