Default idle question

I was wondering if it was normal for a teg to idle at around 2000 rmps when first starting it for a while?
it idles at 2000 for like 10 seconds then drops to 1500 for like 45 seconds then down to 400-600.
I had it adjusted to sit at 400 when i rebuilt my distributor n stuff.

but is that beginning high idle normal to warm the car up?

Why did you adjust it to idle so low?? Stock idle should be 750 +/- 50 rpm. So between 700-800 rpm.

My car will generally rev up to around 2000 rpm the instant the engine fires up, but that is mostly due to the lightweight flywheel I think. On the very coldest of days it will idle around 1700-1800, but if it sits there it takes SEVERAL minutes for the idle to gradually drop to 800.

If yours drops from 1500 down to 400 after only 45 seconds, I think you've got a problem somewhere, maybe in a problem with the FITV or IACV.

okay that sounds a little better.

But I still have to ask, why are you running idle at 400 rpm?

Sounds ok. But you do need to adjust your idle.

"anyone wanna send me a DIY idle adjust? De Loca!" lol..
dude that sounds normal but you need to adjust it back to 800-900rpm, if when the idle is surging you can adjust your fpr if its aftermarket or if it idles to low or to high at op. temp you can adjust the flat head screw on the t.b either way a little at a time until it drops around 8-900 rpms just keep checking until you get it right.

uhh that's not right. Idle should NOT change whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged.
