If I knew what to search for I'd do it but here goes...
The car is a '00 SI and I had the same problem in my 89 hatch where the brake light in the cluster would go off when the e-brake was let down but then come on during heavy acceleration. In both cars, after awhile the light would not turn off and it is getting quite bothersome. I suck with electrical components so my guess is worthless. Anyone have a guess?

same thing happend to me. its the most annoying thing seeing the light on at all times.
one time it happend because my brake fluid was low.
check your brake fluid.
then the sensor on the actual lid of the master cylinder. theres a sensor on it i think to tell if your brake fluid is low or not. and my wires were messed up to it which caused the light to come on at all times.
play with the wires and see if theyre loose which will make the light go off. if thats the problem u need to fix your wiring issue to the master cylinder. i thought it was that my fluid was super dirty and i changed out the fluid and it stayed on but it was the electrical to it. so if the light goes off when u put ur e brake down then comes back on it could be your e brake because my light turned a different shade of red when i put the ebrake down.
check master cylinder-fluids low, wires are messed up
