How do you paint a custom valve cover? (Not just powdercoating it)
Sorry no, im not talking about your regular powdercoating. Im talking about custom characters/artwork on a valve cover. I need to know what kind of primer and paint to use/where to get it. Also, what type of clear to use to protect the custom work. All help is appreciated
. Ive been checking threads, and all ive seen are powdercoated VC's

Let me first ask you, will you be painting the valve cover and have you ever painted before.
The reason I ask this, if you dont have alot of experience painting and are looking do something custom(other than a solid color) it probably would be more cost effective and easier to bring it to a local painter or shop and tell them what you want.

My VC was stripped to bare metal, then was sanded smooth. Sprayed a epoxy sealer down then a high build primer. Sanded down with 600 grit and then the basecoat was sprayed. Then 3 coats of automotive clear.
thx for the responses, im having a friend of mine who's a real good artist do the custom work for me. He's only done artwork on paper and walls before. All we have to find out is what high temperature primer/paint/clear to use then we should be all ready to go.
