my car got keyed should i report to insurance???
ok as you all know i just bought a 1993 civic cx hatchback. the body is still realy clean just a couple of dings here and there and no dents. paint is still good. will last night my car got keyed by some hater. pretty much i would have to paint one whole side of the car but with that issue i would not be satisfied because one side would then be newer than the other so painting the whole car is my only option. if i was to report this to my insurance and file a claim will they consider my car to be a salvage title after that since the paint work will cost more than what my car is worth??? since on kbb.com my car is worth only like $1,600 and most car shop that does good work will charge about $2,000 or more just to paint the whole exterior of the car. if my car will be considered salvage then i rather not report it to my insurance and keep my car a clean title than it being salvage title.
here are pics of my car. car was keyed from front passenger hood all the way back to the rear driver side quarter panel!!! no pics of keyed car yet

nice car! where did your car get keyed at? i don't think you will get a salvage title just for painting the car. i would just call up your insurance coimpany and talk to them and see what they say
whats your deductible ? for some reason i doubt a insurance company would pay to paint a whole car since there is damage to one side.
well here is the deal. It is up to your insurance and how they work. I took my car to a paint shop that is known for high prices. Told them I just wanted to paint one side because of the key and turned their estimate in to my insurance. It came out to about 2 grand. I asked the insurance company to cut me a check because I wanted to pay the difference to paint the whole car at once and they cut me the check. THEN I went to a buddy's shop and gave them the cash after cashing the check and told them to paint the whole car.
I don't know if your insurance company will do that for you though. You would have to check.

It is fraud because lsvtecturbosol preplanned to take the car to his buddies shop and get a deal. It would have been more legitimate to just pocket the money and leave the damage, where the money compensates for the decreased value. Ethics are difficult to teach.
OP, how much did you pay for the car? In all sense, why are you paying for full coverage if a paint job is going to total the car?

had something similar happen, but it was sprayed with a paint remover. talked it out with the insurance company and paint work couldnt total a car. atleast thats what i got form the conversation, it has to be strucal damage. could be wrong check with your provider. obviously you have full coverage i take it.
honestly, if you want to keep it clean title, then dont report it.
If the scratches are very light, you might be able to fix them yourself with some rubbing compound, if not then just dont report it and save up and get it painted out of your pocket.

im pretty sure if the guy has looked at his car and thinks it needs to be painted it wont just buff out. your best bet is to talk to your agent and see what they say.
Total damage to her insurance company. $700
You MIGHT still be okay! I had an entire side of my last car (RSX) sideswiped by a drunk driver...including the pretty much irreplaceable pass. side quarter panel. I seriously frown upon Service King and the work/customer service they offer, but they did get one thing right: the blending process. Apparently, they are somehow able to blend the paint and it matches quite well...almost perfect in fact. I know it's not all new paint, but it's better than getting the entire thing repainted. With only a $50 deductible it might be worth a shot! Depending on the damage, it may "only" be $1000-1200 which could still protect your car from a salvage title!
I doubt this technique is exclusive to Service King, also, so ask around and see what you can find.

you need insurance, in case you damage someone else's car or if you total your car.. pretty much the only cases where you'll come up ahead.
 for insurance fraud. You f-it up for everyone. That's why lots of insurance companies won't cut checks anymore. They deal directly with the repair shop. So far seen this with AIG, Progressive, and State Farm in so cal.
