Default Upshift light on 6th gen Accord

In the last two months of owning my 2001 Honda Accord, I have noticed that there is no upshift light/indicator on this car. Is this true that there is no upshift light or do I have a bulb out?

Every manual I have owned in the past has had one and while I drive manual cars by both sound and RPM, it was always interesting to see when the shift light came on in relation to rpm and speed

Thanks
L

There's no light or sound that tells you when to shift in the Accord. You probably either have more expensive or sports-oriented cars before. Accord is a family car.

I'm pretty sure that older Neons had a light and I remember seeing it on an late 80's Mustang LX and an early 90's Topaz.

I think that when he's referring to sound,he's talking about when the RPM's hit that high whining sound, then you know that you should shift.

I'm of the personal opinion that if you can't drive a manual trans can by ear(meaning knowing when to shift by the sound that it makes, instead of looking down to see what RPM range you are in),then you don't have any business driving them.

I feel a person should be able to drive a manual transmission by listening and feeling the car, without having to always see the rpms. The tach helps though, to learn the sounds their car makes at different rpms and to time their shifts. Once someone learns to shift by sound and feel, there should be no need to constantly watch the tach or an upshift light.

Awesome opinions, guys.

There's no shift light in any Accord up to the 7th gens. I don't know about the Accords past that.

I never said there was a shift light. Just saying, driving a stick doesn't require a shift light.

Thanks for the replies

By noise I meant the sound of the engine.

The last two cars I had the upshift light were on a 1990 Ford Escort 5 door hatch and a Chevy Beretta. With 90hp and 100hp respectively, those two cars were neither expensive or sports cars

I always thought this upshift light was just on entry level cars

There are times when I will alternate between using the engine sound as a sign to shift or the tach to do so.

Thanks
