Question about older GE Sleeved Block
I have read threads about this a while back but I forget what I read and the search blows. My block was sleeved by GE back in 02 or 03 if I remember correctly, and when I just pulled the head I found a piece or Orange RTV that was barely attached and I am assuming it was some excess from the sealent they used, is this going to be an issue? The piece came from cylinder 3 and it looks to be long enough to go all the way around the bore.
Last time i saw a thread like this as as soon as the word "orange" was said GE came on the thread and told the OP the block needed to be resleeved, hopefully he will post soon...
I do somewhat remember that thread, but if IIRC the OG poster of that thread was having coolant leaking into his crank case, I do not have any issues with this block that I am aware of other than this, and I would think that if it was leaking coolant from the base of the sleeve I would see it in my oil.
IF your block has no issues, then leave it be. That sealant is no longer used, but that doesn't mean your block is no good. Remember, this block is now 6 or 7 years old!!! If there is a problem, I am confident that GE will take care of you.
