Has Anyone Ever Had a Problem with Cam Gears?
Has anyone installed aftermarket cam gears, such as AEM, on a 1997-2001 prelude? If the timing is set at 0, have you guys ever had any problems with a check engine light or even a bent valve?
I have some Venom ones. They work real well, I adjust them all the time depending on what I want. If I want top end or bottom end.
the only problem i have with my AEM cam gears is i cant get the reading set at 0 and 0 when everything is at TDC. since they are adjustable, i set everything at tdc then just move the camshaft till the holes on the camcaps line up properly.
Are you having this problem yourself? If so, it sounds like they weren't installed right and they're off at least one tooth. Otherwise there's no reason you should have this problem.
We have a certified technician who installed the cam gears. He's done them in numerous cars. A kid's car that he installed them in has the problem. I guess the kid kept adjusting them and it kept messing up his engine. He had a serious problem and took it to the dealer. The dealer would not touch it because it had aftermarket cam gears. They would have to charge him and it would not be under warranty. So the kid decided he would get smart and have his unknowledgable friend reinstall his factory cam gears. The guy who did it fucked it up. He took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it with a bent valve. He had to spend $1900 to fix it. Now he is trying to sue him for that.
