Integra max at 15 degrees timing
Hi Everyone,
I have a 98 gsr with stage 1 skunk2 cams. Recently had timing belt replacement by dealer. Now i notice that i am at 15 degrees advance timing with the distributor all the way (maxed out). Is this normal, cause i think i should still be able to adjust to 16-17 right. Are there any special instructions installing the timing belt with this cams? at top dead center, everything is lined up correctly, doesn't seem like it off a tooth or something.
Thanks!!!

yeah i dont think that is right cause my DB is at 15 degrees and the dizzy isnt even advanced all the way. Have a shop check it, sometimes they'll just check it for free SOMETIMES
took it back to dealer and everything was right. I even opened it up again when i got home and seems like everything is right as well. the cam marking lines up with the hole (cover) and the cam gears are aligned as well. here are some pics i took.
What crank pulley line did they use for TDC: the white or the red? The white line is correct. The cams can be aligned up top, but the crank can still be off by 16 degrees.

unfortunately not. I will have it when i open it up again this week. its not exactly perfect but at TDC like i said, everything seems to be where they are.
id say take it back . timming isnt that hard what dealership did you take it too. from those pics you timmming is way off. get a timming light and check it for you self.
Did you jump the service connector when taking your reading?
Aa.. looks like someone already beat me to that.

this makes a huge difference. you can only time that car right at ....what is it? 800rpm, the service jump holds it there. the exact rpm is on your sticker but above or below it will not be accurate. this is my guess as i've fired a motor that's 1 tooth off. you can't get near 15 degrees without cutting up the dizzy. my guess is the rpm was not where it should have been and thus creating the wild readings. i always always use a scan tool when i time my car to verify rpm and ecu igniton advance.
Timed it right... with the jumper at normal operating temp. It's at about 800 rpm. The timing is steady at 15 degrees at max adjusted on the dizzy.
you can do one of two things.
A: redneck it and grind out the dizzy to get another couple degrees of timing
B: degree the cams and realize that they could be ground off a degree or two thus requiring adjustable cam gears. just incase this doesn't click for anyone reading it, if the cam is a degree or two off which is almost nothing by the eye, the dizzy will not be able to go where it should. by degreeing you verify if the dizzy slot is ground off or if the lobes are. basically you make sure the lobes are doing what they should, then do what you have to in order to set the dizzy.

ok take crank pulley off them take timming cover off. line crank up with arrow up with arrow on oil pump. roll cam gears around till the both cam gears say up and the lines on the cam gears are flush with the head. put belt back on with with proper tension. turn crank pulley clock wise and check tension . re iinstall crank pulley and timing cover. and then check dizzy timing
