Default 2001 honda civic gauge cluster issue?

Hello i have a 2001 honda civic EX that has 95000 miles on it and it has worked great until recently. I was just driving around one night and my whole gauge cluster just died. The lights and needles and all my dash lighting went out. I still have my radio and headlights work but thats it. I also have the brake light that stays on when it happens. From time to time it comes back on and then it eventually dies again, so i was wondering if anyone knew what this problem might be? I have tore it apart a few times looking for loose connections, but i havent found anything like that. I heard from someone the multiplex processor or something goes bad but when i asked honda about it they had no clue what i was talking about. So if anyone could help me id really appreciate it. Thanks in advance if you can.
