Default Dilemma with headers

alright so this is the question i have. I swapped a b16a into my 96 hatch last august and i decided to go with a hytech replica tri-y header. The header is great and all but it hangs way too low and is getting destroyed.

I was looking into changing it for another and i turned to a stock type R header. what are your thoughts? if this is not a good choice do you have eny recommendations? that are under $500

take the header you have to a welding shop and have what ever you need to make it not hit taken off and tig it back together. maybe 1.5/2''

but the thing is is that i have a 4-2-1 header but it passes underneath the oil pan with 4 tubes rather than 2:

but i want something like this that won't hang so low (only two pipes pass under the oil pan):

i live in quebec and the roads here are horendous pot holes everywhere and these just don't give enough clearance and are being flatened out at the bottom with every unavoidbale bump

use the type r header, i would. the other one is more for a track car or a dream world with no bumps.

ya but the whole thing is is that i don't want 4 tubes passing under the block because these headers have good clearance for smooth roads, just not on the roads where i drive it

You could try using one of those Password:JDM header shields... they're suppose to be bulletproof strong. It wouldn't stop all denting, but I bet it could prevent quite a bit of it.

If I were you I'd buy a RMF replica header. I believe there is a sponsor here in HT that sells it. And its superb compared to th tri-y. Clearance is great and you get more horsies.

first suggestion: dont got to a 4-1 header, tri-y headers outperform 4-1.

its kinda hard to say what the performance characteristics of the 2 headers you showed would be. one is long with large diameter, one is short with small diameter.

the thing is, USUALLY you have a short header with large diameter for high rpm power, and the opposite a long small diameter header for low end torque. those pics are very strange, i would imagine that the big one is more of a race header, while the small one is more of a street header.

all things considered i think the short header will give you more low end torque because of the small diameter tubing. but its very hard to say so dont quote me on that.

i would suggest a 2-piece header, where the 2 pieces bolt together in front of the engine. that will give you the 2 tubes under the engine for clearance AND tri-Y

doesnt show what kinda tri-y thats compared to. cant deny the dyno chart BUT what kinda tri-y is that compared to. ive seen ALOT of test results on ALOT of 4-1 vs tri-y. tri-y beats 4-1 more often than not. the thing is that a 4-1 has to have very specific engineering go into the collector, angles, points. the tri-y is alot simpler and easier to make right. not saying it cant be done, but on a street car, price is almost always a factor.

Raise your car up, or drive more carefully.

That's the only advice I can give.

as for raising the car not gonna happen and trust me I avoid holes the best i can but up here with the salt on the roads it makes holes tht are unavoidable even on the highway rolling at 60mph those are the ones that do damage

i saw the Toda header the 2nd version and thats what im looking for but im not willing to spend 1300$ for a header..

still looking for some suggestions with my criteria in mind!

thanks for the responses though im getting somwhere lol
