B16A swap, VTEC hits at 5300rpm
I have a 94 Civic Si and just put in a B16A SiR-II swap and VTEC hits at 5300rpm, isn't it supposed to hit at 6000?
Is my tach off?
My knock sensor wire isn't wired correctly so I have a code 23 (knock sensor code) could this affect operation of the engine? Like a limp/safe mode?

It all depends on what ecu your using. I think as far as stock ecu's are concerned vtec engages anywhere from 5200-6000rpm. And get that knock sensor wired correctly.
i've seen tachs alot more off than that, my buddy i went to school with had a b16 in his ej1 and his vtec would hit at "3500 rpm" haha. It seems normal for 5300rpm, and deffinetely wire up that knock sensor!
my b16a2, vtec comes in at 5500 or there abouts and all my buddies b16a2 about rite about the same. i wouldn't worry about it if everything sounds and felt alrite. are you planning on getting it mapped?

Oh yeah, I'm using the stock JDM P30 that came with it.
As far as the tachometer being off I guess I'll have to see what RPM I'm at when I hit 60mph in 2nd gear
The calculator says that with my 195/50/15 tires I should hit 60mph at exactly 8233rpm in 2nd gear, but I also have to consider that speedometers aren't always accurate either. I hit 60mph today and I think I was around 7900-8000rpm, so it can't be too far off I guess.

bahahaha! Nice.
But now I think the tach is off because although VTEC activates at 5500rpm, the rev limiter is at 7800 and that's not right. So when I'm at 7800, I'm really at like 8500?

Stock P30 Vtec should be 5800RPM, my P30 is chipped to engage at 5300. I'm pretty sure stock rev limiter was @ 8200, but I could be wrong about that one.
I've been comparing EG6 and EH3 guage clusters and the position of the numbers on the tachometer are different. They're about 500rpm off from one another.
Oh yeah, I wired the knock sensor and have had no CEL at all, so that's good

VTEC is at "5500" and I shift at "7500" right before I hit the rev limiter. So it gets progressively worse the higher I rev. I'm already 300rpm off at VTEC, then around 700rpm off at redline. Sweet.
No, oil is right on the dot. But what's weird is that now I can shift to 8000rpm and the limiter is just past that now, instead of the 7800k like before. Is there a chance my tach is learning this new engine? It seems to be!
sounds like your tachs off. vtec at 5500 sounds about right. i know stock si's engauge at 5500. my 00 si did. my jdm p30 engauged at 6k if i remember right. if you get a chipped p28 you dont need a knock sensor. thats what im running right now in my gsr hatchy.
jdm p30 (b16a) redline is at 8296 vtec is at 5872.
edm p30 (b16a2) redline is 8116 vtec is at 5872 as well.
