How much would you pay for this sol?
i'm looking at a silver 96 del sol at a local dealer. automatic, 89000 miles, black interior. pretty clean almost no rust. just wondering how much i should offer. the guy wants 5500. i said i would trade in my car (97 4dr lx with various mods, <$1000 worth) +add at absolute most $1400. just wondering if that's a good deal. thanks.
ok, so we can confirm its an S model. D16Y7, non vtec, automatic, with what you describe as minor rust (I can see it on the bottom of the door, usually when you can see it like that its rusted from the inside out.) It really doesn't have much going for it besides being a Del Sol. I'd say its worth more like $3000. If it was me i'd hold out for a 5 speed Si or Vtec model.

that's not rust, it's dirt. i've seen it in person and the only place there is rust is surface rust on the edge below the license plate. the inside is pristine though. so how much should i offer for the difference when trading in my car?
and i can't hold out for another sol because there won't be another sol. this is the only one i've seen in about 8 years

i really wouldn't get it at all.
and you say you'll never have a chance at a sol again, but you never know. i bought my del sol and i thought it was the only one around... well, it pretty much was at the time. a couple months later, there's about 5 or 6 people in town with one.

Ahh, similar to where I am, there is exactly 1 Del Sol here for years, owned by a an older lady, yellow with some ugly rims, it was up for sale this past summer, same idea, S model automatic. I'd offer something way below what he wants, say $2500 for the car (this is without the trade in being figured in at all), obviously he's likely to balk, but you can probably get it for something a lot more reasonable than $5,500 you start low. Bottom line is its not worth anywhere near the sticker price.
well we'll see. it's an opportunity for change and i hate my 4 dr. it's just not worth working on anymore. and it's only half my car cuz it's my sisters too so we'll see
and i defintiely know it's not worth 5500 but apparently he paid 3400 for it so he's trying to get his money. but i offered 4300 with my trade in being worth 3500 so we'll see

If its any consolation, I picked my cousin up an Automatic Sol back in the day for a daily for like $3,000 in mint condition. This was at least 4 years ago, from a dealer. An Auto isn't worth it man.
I know that you already decided not to get the car but I looked at kbb and saw they listed it at 5500 in ex condition. But according to kbb to be in excellent condition a car must meet these standards taken from kbb web site
Excellent (Selected)
"Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. This vehicle has never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. The vehicle has a clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. The engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. The vehicle also has complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.
I don't think that car is in excellent condition! Just something to remember when some qotes kkb and states a car is in excellent condition and worth top dollar!
