you cant really paint carpet, carpet is dyed, lol. you can bleach it white, look for chemicals that will cause color changes on carpet, google it, but painting i believe is not an option

People have had luck dying their stock carpet with Dupli-color High Performance Vinyl and Fabric paint. http://www.duplicolor.com/products/vinyl.html
I have only seen it successfully done with black. I'm not too sure how well red would go on top of grey.

DO NOT "PAINT" YOUR CARPET!!! it was the biggest mistake that i ever made. i just recently had to remove my carpet, clean all the shitty paint off, and dye it with Rit dye. black worked really well for me. i used 4 packs of dye to i think 12 gallons of water. now i just need some black floor mats and it's gunna look pimp. just remove your carpet and DYE it, seriously you'll regret painting it...plus it's way cheaper to just do it right the first time.
