Is there such a thing as an ek4?
I need help?can anybody tell me if their is a such thing as an ek4?if their is please explain, and also what would be a good price for an ek9......(I'm going to buy an ek9)
EK4 = 96-00 SiR
EK9 = 97-00 Civic Type R
Depends on what kind of condition the EK9 is, mileage, etc. I'd say on average somewhere in the lower teens (11-13k?).

It seems you are probably greatly confused to begin with though, so I will start from the beginning.
Chassis Codes
A chassis code is part of your VIN (in the US). It is stamped on cars in other countries. For Honda, you will usually see a blue label on the core support.
A chassis code a code that refers to several things about a car. Some of what it refers to are as follows: year range, engine type, body style.
1996 - 2000 Honda Civic Chassis Codes
Here are the chassis codes for sixth generation Civics. This includes cars from the US, Japan, Europe and other countries.
EJ6 (1.6L SOHC non-VTEC 2/3/4 door)
EJ7 (1.6L SOHC VTEC-E 2 door)
EJ8 (1.6L SOHC VTEC 2/4 door)
EJ9 (1.4L SOHC non-VTEC 3/4 door)
EK1 (1.6L SOHC VTEC or VTEC-E 3/4 door)
EK2 (1.3L SOHC non-VTEC? 3/3 door)
EK3 (1.5L SOHC VTEC 3/4 door)
EK4 (1.6L DOHC VTEC 3/4 door)
EK5 (1.6L SOHC ?? 4 door 4WD)
EK6 (??L SOHC ?? 3 door)
EK7 (??L SOHC ?? 3 door)
EK8 (1.6L SOHC ?? 4 door 4WD)
EK9 (1.6L DOHC VTEC 3 door)
EM1 (1.6L DOHC VTEC 2 door)
EN1 (1.6L SOHC VTEC CNG 4 door)
US Civics
In the US, as with all other countries, we only have certain Civics available.
Here are the Civics available in the US. I've put them in order according to body style.
1996 - 2000 Civic DX coupe (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic EX coupe (EJ8 / D16Y8 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic HX coupe (EJ7 / D16Y5 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E)
1999 - 2000 Civic Si coupe (EM1 / B16A2 - 1.6L DOHC VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic CX hatch (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic DX hatch (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic DX sedan (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
1999 - 2000 Civic DX-V (aka SE or VP) sedan (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
1996 - 2000 Civic EX sedan (EJ8 / D16Y8 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC)
1998 - 2000 Civic GX sedan (EN1 / D16B5 - 1.6L SOHC VTEC CNG)
1996 - 2000 Civic LX sedan (EJ6 / D16Y7 - 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC)
Can I change my chassis code?
No, you cannot change your chassis code. You can make a replica of another car, but if your car was originally a 1997 Civic CX hatchback, it will always be an EJ6. Even if you put a B16B in it, it will never be an EK9. It will always be an EJ6.
So now back to your questions.
We never had them in the US.
An EK9 will set you back quite a bit. The EK9 was a 1997 to 2000 Civic Type R hatch with a B16B engine. It was only sold in Japan. They were all RHD.
So in order to get an EK9 you will need to buy an imported vehicle. You will also need to make it legal to drive in the US. I would expect something around $13,000 to $18,000.
Here are some for sale. Remember though the car might be registered and legal in the state it's being sold in, it might not be legal where you live.
1999 Civic Type RX (CO) Registered - $16,500
1999-2000 Civic Type R (WI) Registered - $10,600 (Originally listed for $12,500, then dropped to $11,000 and then relisted.)
1998 Civic Type R (WA) Unregistered - $14,000
1999 Civic Type R (CA) Unregistered - $14,500
Bottom line is, more than likely you will not be getting an EK9.
I hope this has helped explain things.

Yes, but you are in Norway. Norway has EK4s. The United States does not.
Some people in the United States even wrongly think that an EK4 is a '96-'98 hatchback and that an EK9 is a '99-'00 hatchback.
Many of us know that is wrong and totally backwards.

i don't mean to dig up a dead post but it was up when i was googling euro spec civics.
i thought the CTR was released in euro markets aswell as the Japanese markets?in any case i see a few on auto traders uk site.
and they are 96-00 style hatches...
and they are alot less than 18k...however you would need to arrange shipping and other modifications to get it into America as needed i assume.
converted from pounds to usd they seem to be in the 8-10k range.

that's the search narrowed to such that the type Rs are easy to find in the lot....notice VTIs and SEs going anywhere from 1500 to 5000 usd

The $13-18k range was for (purchase of car) + (shipping and handling of car) + (legalization of car for US roads) + (taxes and registration of car). I'm not even sure if it's possible to make a JDM car legal in the US any longer.
ahhh got ya so the vti was the top euro spec?
and i read somewhere that the issue with importing is the vin? which of course tells you the market the car is intended for?
**shrugs** im no expert but the vti seems to be a better bet anyway cost wise.

Some places the VTi would be the top trim and in other places it could be a D16-equipped car.
The VIN is the identification number for the vehicle. A VIN not from the US won't register with at least some computer systems. I can't even look up a Canadian VIN in Honda's Owner Link. So if you tried to register it, even if the VIN looks the same as a US one, it won't be able to be registered as easily as a US car. My understanding is a new VIN would need to be assigned to the car.
If we're going to talk about the best deal, just get a US Civic and swap whatever engine you want into it. THAT is the best deal.
