First Crx!
Hey guys im new to this site and to imports for that matter, I came here for advise and help. I got my first crx today its a 91 si D16a and was so happy because ive been wanting one for a really long time now and i finally got one. I had to drive 8 hours to do it but i got it
but anways. I took it to my cousins house to show him because he wanted to see it when i got it, he told me to pop the hood and he said "Man that is the slowest motor you can get" He drives a 240, but anways that really hurt my feelings when he said that i mean he didnt have to rain on my sunshine. I came on here wanting to ask what i can do to make the car a beast, the best bang for my buck because im kinda strapped on cash at the moment. I was thinking about a b18 but i dont know first thing about this stuff or what i would need. Then i was looking at SOHC stuff, ANY advice or links would be great!

not the slowest motor you can have, but far from fastest. Its the stock d16a6 and what i still have. how much of a beast do you want? whats a tight budget. 1000 bucks you can do a small turbo or a fun NA "build" Im doing a cheap NA build just because i have other priorities right now, Bisi level 2 cam, head milled 30 thou, y8 intake manifold, chipped ecu to tune the car, ported head with new seals and maybe a few other things.
Can do all this well under a grand and make ur car a bit faster and more fun. Porting is expensive for quality work, but I have a close friend with full machine shop and 30 years building high performance motors and access to a dyno and equipment to burn me chips for tuning purposes so that helps with budget.
Also considering like a 35 shot ZEX kit or the like just because. Find you local resources and make the best of them, and a nice cam like BISI or the exospeed sr909 will give you a fun bump in power. I don't like the mini me configuration some people do, unless parts are extremley cheap bigger gains can be had for same money usually. have fun and read the FAQ section, a few good articles on cheap power (not a ton mind you) for the exact motor you have.
First things first, make it reliable! Plugs, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, brakes, tires, bearings/axles are first things to take care of usually if needed. Sucks to spend money and not get faster, but saves headaches and usually money in the long run when ur not stranded.

haha ur cousin sounds like a douche but yea the stock motor is lacking quite a bit.
anyway just do some searching on this site, some good info on both drops and engine builds. I'm assuming this is your daily driver, and since you are strapped for cash I say save ur money until you have enough to do all the work at once.
You could get bolt ons for your engine now and while it might look and sound cool its not gonna give you that much of an increase in reliable performance.
Just take your time and do things right the first time by planning and saving your money.
