Default 09 Si eating up oil

Its been awhile since I've been to HT!
I bought a dyno blue 09 Si 2dr back in October. I've got almost 8000 miles on the clock already. It seems as though every time I check my oil (~ every 200 miles), the level has went down. Is the K20 known to burn oil when newish? I'm not familiar with this motor at all yet. It seems I have to put about a quart of it every 1000 miles. I'm having it looked at by the dealer tomorrow. I followed proper break in procedures.

For the first 1000 miles you may experience LIGHT oil consumption, but even then it should be MINIMAL. I would definitely have the dealer check it out, get paperwork stating your complaint so that you've got recourse in the future. They will most likely require you to change your oil with them on this visit and them bring back in 3000 miles to check the oil level.

Yeah... I know there's nothing they'll really do so I'm just documenting it with them. I figured some oil consumption is normal within the break in period... My dads brand new Accord V6 coupe hasn't eaten any and he's got about the same amount of miles as me.

It would depend on the oil life percentage. I went to my dealer to use my one time free oil change, with about 60% life remaining after about 2800 miles. They wouldn't touch the oil unless it was at or below 15%.

My policy is to now change at 40%... They told me on the phone that they're gonna run some sort of oil consumption test. Never heard of such a thing.
I haven't noticed any leaks anywhere.

I had the same problem with my G35 Coupe. I brought it back at 1000 miles after they
had checked it. This went on at least three times before they would believe me. As it turns out, that particular year of engine had an oil consumption
problem. Good luck!

Same thing happend to my parents on there 07 up until about 5000 miles it was burning like crazy. Everytime they checked the oil it was down. Then it started slowing down and now the cars at nearly 13k and doesnt show any signs of burning oil. If I were you I would bring it up at the dealer. My dad some how managed to get the warranty upgraded to 8 yrs/80k miles. He also called Honda headquarters a few times complaining.

Took it in yesterday. No sign of leaks, no oil in coolant, no codes, no signs of burning oil from the spark plugs.. I have to return in 1000 miles.
I imagine the k20 would eat more oil than your typical motor. Because it revs nice and high, the clearances are a bit larger than average?

Just wondering if any of you had any follow up to these posts. I have an 07 TW Sedan that seems to burn oil like nobodies business. Stupid or not I have been changing the oil every 2500-3000 miles and within 2-3 the level is between the high and low marks. 2-3 weeks after and I am looking below the low.

Any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated as I am a loss.

'07 TW Si Sedan
less than 20,000 miles

Thanks guys
Chris

i first changed my oil when the oil life meter was at 10%.
my friend changed his around 25% and it burned oil all the way up to his 3rd oil change. idk if it makes a difference or not, but thats what i experienced.

K20's will burn some oil. Luckly mine doesn't burn much. I am at almost 35k on the car right now and I am at about 8k right now on my Mobil 1 EP and I am right in between the lines!

I have heard that Honda says anything more than 1 one quart per 1,000 miles is considered excessive. I don't think you should have anywhere near that amount of consumption though.

Thanks guys, I have a 1000 Km road trip starting Monday so i will see how she does. If she burns more than a quart during that period I will take her to the dealer. SUCKS having to deal with local German dealerships...

thanks again
