How do you check if a tranny is good without a test drive?

How do you check if a tranny is good without a test drive?
Hey guys. Im looking into purchasing a b16 tranny but all of the trannys on ht I cannot test drive. I was wondering if there was anything I can to to test it on the spot without installing it.

with my old d-series, the bearings were shot. When i twisted the input shaft, it felt like twisting a pepper grinder. A good tranny would at least rotate smoothly. As for checking things such as the synchros, I dont know. In for any other info.

Yeah. Thats what what I have to base it on. I would have to meet him at his house. If it doesnt work and he doesnt want to refund, it will end up in his car through his window.
