Hey guys.

My AC compressor coil is going bad, and the A/C Clutch is making all kindsa noise.
update: noise is gone, just doesn't blow cold air anymore.

The dealer says these two need to probably get replaced and want 600 bucks just for the parts.

A new AC Compressor and Clutch from pep boys is about $350, or $270 the only thing is I dont know which of the two it is.

The only differentiation in thier computer is '4gr' or '5gr' which the guys at pepboys dont know which is which or what the difference is.

Does anyone here know and can help me pick out which one i need?

First time I'm ever going to tackle AC work myself, only thing I plan on doing professonally is getting the freon evacuated by a shop.

Anyone know of any good write ups or anything I should be concerned with or know ahead of diving into this would be appreciated!!! Any special tools etc....

I got a compressor off ebay for like $150 a year or so back and it works great. I would check into those.

As far as the different part numbers go sometimes there are 2 different part #'s for a particular a/c system. The then to switch brands up sometimes. If you get it from pepeboys just make sure the look the same and all connections will fit together and youll be alright.
