Default For those experienced with Oil leaks, Please Identify, PIX INSIDE /RESOLVED

So, A lot of you know that I have been trying to restore my 94 ej1 d16z6. Posting up pics seems to be the best way to identify leaks and other issues I need help with. So far I have been able to identify and fix every problem doing it this way (knock on wood). Well here is the leak, at first it appears to be a dizzy o ring leak but I replaced that that already. I have also replace my valve cover gasket. It seems to be coming from the area underneath where the dizzy connects to the valve cover, once again dizzy o ring already replace. What is it

A neat trick my dad taught me was to stick sticky notes at different locations just after you park like the block, tranny, and where you think it might be coming from (above or below them. This way you can see if the oil is coming from. Also check for oil covered wires or hoses. Personally I would just start tightening stuff and placing cardboard under my car to check. Best of luck.

when you say cam seal, do you mean camshaft seal? because my mechanic replaced the cam shaft seal and crank seal when he replace the timing belt.

So it sounds like I should replace vtec solenoid gasket and cam seal? Are both fairly easy to replace? I will start researching it right now.

Cam seal is more complicated, VTEC solenoid gasket is VERY easy. try the solenoid first and clean everything up and see if it leaks again.

so according to this PIC, no sure if this is a d16, but it looks like the cam shaft will need to be lifted up and out.

Where would you find the solenoid gasket?

while doing research, i found that the vtec solenoid has 2 gaskets, is the correct. Should i only focus on 1 of them for now? which one?

That's a GS-R (P72) head as the 72 is stamped right above the seal. And the cam doesn't need to be lifted out or disturbed at all just pull that seal out (that one is an aftermarket seal, the OEM honda one is lplastic and only half of that!!) and clean it and re-apply some high-temp sealant around it and reinstall it.

Like others have said, VTEC solenoid, just remove it, clean it and it's mating surface on the head. You can try just doing that and see if it happens to stop the leak sometimes that works and you don't have to buy a new seal, sometimes it doesn't.

I only know of one gasket when we did it on my friends b16 not sure about d16z6's. And you can buy them at honda dealerships.

EDIT: I think I know what you mean, you have to get the main one that goes in between it and the head. there are 3 bolts holding it on the head. its NOT the ones on top they are on the side.

The VTEC solenoid only has one seal that you have to worry about, when you take it off the head you'll see the black seal around the edge of the solenoid thats the one you have to pay attention 2. oh, but if it's on a D series it might be different I'm not sure on that one! lol

Replace 13 and 15, come back.

edit: If you just replace one I would recommend 13 first.

well reading over your post.. i just fixed that same leak on my kid brothers eg with the same engine d16z6. also to add you only have one camshalf seal in your engine and that is on the other side of the engine where the timing belt is.. the b16 and the b18 are the engines that have cam seals on that side of the engine. your problem is in the vtec soleniod i always use a little bit of RTV when i replace gaskets such as that one and also on the dizzy seal... hope this helps and you get the oil leak stopped..

replace both gaskets, but its usually the one between the solenoid and the head... also be gentle on the bolts they break easy
