Recently my emergency brake started sticking sometimes and when I stepped on the brake pedal the rear brakes were hyper sensative. When I pressed the emergency brake release button and dropped the handle the brakes inside the rear drum did not want to release. I jacked the car up and took off the tire and passenger side hub and looked inside to see if I could find anything that was obviously wrong. The tire had irregular wear patterns and was completely ruined,so it had been a problem before I noticed the brake sticking.Except for being filled and i do mean filled with brake dust everything looked to be working ok. I blew the dust out and took it to the local dealership. They cleaned the brake dust out of both the passenger and driver side out and charged me almost $100.00. They said that everthing was in good working order and that the brake dust just needed to be cleaned out. Boy was I mad. I hope this story helps someone else avoid being fleeced for something that you can do yourself.
On a brighter note. There was also a check engine light on and they said it was a code P0420 which meant that I needed a new catalytic converter and that the cat would be 700 installed.
I paid them for cleaning the bake drums and went home and found this website. I found an old old post about a code P0420. I ordered the manifold converter and gasket from Majestic Honda online and saved almost 300.00 in labor. I am so glad I found this website. I have a decently stocked tool box and I will be doing my own repairs from now on.
