Default Del Sol Disaster Rebuild Thread

Pic updates every page full paint page 3

I bought a very hacked up samba green del sol so it needed to be redone. Big thanks to dc5r for his skills,time,and garage. This whole car was done in one week. More to come...

This is the right side quarter panel. Pictures speak for themselves.







After 17 hours of non stop work on the car the spray poly is blocked

Cancer somone tried to fix







welded ant hole



Hacked up left quarter. over an inch of mud pushed in





smoothed out quarter



Smoothed out door and fender. Both were studded and pulled then skimed.



Left quarter pulled and skimed



Sanded ready for spray poly



Bagged and polyd

This is where we stopped as of 7:30 this morning, only because we started at 2pm on friday and worked thru the night. It will be Primed later this week and painted in a week or so waiting on new front bumper or may fix the old one.

Nice!!! I see after you blocked the primer you have some burn through spots. I'm working on my EK and I'm getting burn through as well. Just wanted to make sure it's ok. I am spraying two coats of sealer before the base coat fyi. What grit sandpaper did you use to block?

That isnt primer it is sprayable polester filler which was used for any small imperfections. Much higher build then 2k primer and wont shrink.

The quarter is both panel bonded in some sections and welded in others.

More pics in a few days of the car in primer....

Oh. So after you apply the primer and sand will the burn through spots require another spot pass of primer or will it be ok.

*** UPDATE ***

Got a new oem 97 del sol bumper and immediatly started hacking it up.





















Car masked and shot with the first 3 coats of primer





Car was blocked with 240 and 3 more coats of primer
