Default 9.5" brakes on a road course?

do any of you guys use an optimized 9.5" front setup or do you just upgrade to a 10.2" (or bigger) for lapping days/road racing? i'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to try and improve this setup or if i should ditch it for something bigger n' better. anyone have any experience with the 'tiny' honda brakes on a road course? these brakes are great for street and auto-x's but i'm not sure if they'll hold up so well to a lapping day.. even with hawk blues, ate superblue and ducting..

120 bhp on the VX monster with P+'s in front, drums in back......pedal felt perfect all weekend.

Oscar runs the 9inchers on his rex also, and she'll pull high 1:29's at summit point.

H1 cars run 1:27's there...BTW

Bo, what have you done to your car? Stock Honda brakes seem to be sufficient for all Honda IT cars I've seen. Only when you get into engine swaps or forced induction will you be in a danger zone.

the 9.5" brake system is good for stock motor with pad/fuild/ss brake line if under race condition. however, i think it will become not enough if u can go up to 110-120mph and repeatly brake under that speed. anyway, for sohc motor, i wouldnt recommand 10.2" system. i had that setup before and it got a chance that it stop the motor when u lock up the brake.

I'm fairly sure that'll happen if you lock the brakes up with ANY sized rotors.

true, but what i am trying to say is that 10.2 setup for sohc make lock up alot easier than any b-series with big brake setup.

Personal experience from 10+ years of driving 89-91 Civic/CRX on track. The stock brake system with good aftermarket pads, Ford HD brake fluid, and 2.5in ducting, will do fine. I have seen on the back straight at VIR an indicated 120mph, and about the same at lowes coming down the front straight. Invest in track time before spending $500? on brake upgrade

right now it's bone stock sporting an awesome 80+ hp d15! =P i've got a b18c in the garage that'll be getting dropped in the next few months tho.. of course suspension will be done beforehand.. so with the added power of the motor going with a larger brake setup would be the smart choice?

what about a 10.2" gsr setup vs. 11" fastbrakes setup? is there that big of an advantage with the fastbrakes? it just seems like plenty of people stick with stock optimized setups and do fine.. hmm, anyone wanna buy a used fastbrakes 11" kit? =P

I'm running the GSR setup with P+ pads in the front and it's a lot of stopping power. More than street tires can handle at least.

I rode in Jack's (B18CXR) VX that he mentions above and I certainly didn't feel any brake problems then either. Before you start spending a bunch of money, you may want to just try out a good set of pads and see how it does. Then, if/when you see a need to upgrade, go for something bigger.

I would say there is a huge advantage w/ the fastbrakes kit. Mine has been awesome and stopping distances have been greatly reduced. Late braking has been my friend lately keeping up w/ all the guys in hatchcraps w/ ITR motors IMO, there is no reason for you to get rid of the kit if you already have it. Mine has saved me more than a couple of times

Just curious... greatly reduced from what?... what setup were you running before this? brakes and pads...

I know it's a good setup, just trying to get some comparison.

I don't think you need them. If you were in a 500 hp GT race car, I'd have a different opinion. But, witht the current weight and power I don't think it'll do much good.

****, our ITA cars are fine through 30 minute races at 10/10 and with only a little long pedal, they hold up well...

Spend your money on driver development - it's where your biggist return on investment is. (at this stage of your track experience)

I ran my stock ek hatchback brakes with a b16a at buttonwillow a few monthes ago. I was getting brake fade after a few laps. It was also pretty hot that day. I now have gsr brakes and they were fine at big willowsprings two weeks ago.

I don't have specific numbers as far as stopping distance goes. The measure I have is late braking even lighter cars (hatches) with the same brakes I had (EX). We all know that larger rotor surfaces can help dissipate heat better. That's a given. The ITR upgrade is almost a no brainer if you can afford it b/c of reliability and relatively cheap cost compared to other big brake kits. I have experienced fade with these though, (HP+ pads) but that is after repeated (15-20) laps on a course that is punishing on the brakes.
