i have the least powerful b18a1 (obd0) with i/h/e/ctr crank pulley in my ed6 and my homie loves it way more than his b16a ed6 with pretty much the same boltons.

i wouldn't really call it less powerful, that would be an insult. though it does have a lower hp rating, how long would it really take a b16a with the same mods and in the same car as the ls catch up to it? now imagine the ls with a b16 transmission. beautiful
b18a/b ftw!

Do like me, don't make a choice, take both of them . B18a1 block w/b16a1 head

Although I must say I've driven a b18a1 with high comp pistons and headers as the only mods really and it blasted things. Was a fun drive, where as I've driven b16a1 motor and was not really impressed. Both were in crx's and the b16 had stock comp pistons and bolt ons.

Good luck with your choice

ls/vtec is definately the better choice but i wouldn't recommend that to someone who doesn't have much experience so if you don't feel comfortable don't take that task on, if you want to in the future though make sure you get a 90-95 b18a/b so you don't have to buy an aftermarket pressure kit like endynes which is around 250.

b18a = less hp but more torque

and torque wins races lol

i have a b16a in my car, but the ls guys are pretty close in quickness

so if you wanna be quick on the cheap, go with a b18a
if your a v-tech ***** like me and dont care about spendin a lil more $$$, go with the b16a

Actually torque is what gets you off the line. Horsepower is what keeps you going.

we drive hondas.... WTF is torque

I have a B16A with moderate build and its a blast. it doesn't take much to get a ton out of any honda motor.

Yeah I was thinking that to. Because an b16 head has good flow for an ALL MOTOR, and the B18a1 block is really strong.... But IDK i'm still thinking about it.

I personally wouldnt buy either, both are about 20 years old for gods sake!

here is an option that might be better(atleast IMO) get an 92-93 full ls swap, get a b20z along with the swap. you can get the swap for 800 bucks these days and a b20z for 500, then sell the b18 that comes with the swap for 200-300 bucks and you have yourself a b20z swap for a 1000 bucks! remember you can use all the parts that come with the ls on the b20z such as the ls intake & exhaust manifold,tb,cam & gears, ecu which all bump the already 146hp b20z to 156hp with almost 140tq
check b20z dyno on yahoo from hybridgarage for more info(thats where I got this idea years ago) also remember that you dont have to plug everything that comes with the b20z, things like the knock sensor and stuff do not have to be wired since your using the ls ecu, you just simply swap in the b20z as you would the b18.

this combination will be a fresher set-up since some b20z's are from 2001 making it only 8 years old, plus the b16 comes from cars that are ment to be raped vs the b20z comes from mostly women driven suv's(chances are that itll be healthier) and to top all that your just 4 hp shy from an b16 with 30lbs more of tq both delivered at wayyy less rpm too! and the b20z will require much less throttle as a dd and will get better mpg ,specially with a lightweight ed,specially with an ls gearbox. dont even worry about the taller gearing as this IMO is all exagerated too much besides the b20z has a much more linear powerband with a **** load of tq and when mated to a car thats sooo light will not be in need of such short gearing. I used to have this same set up in my eg vx and spanked b16's day and night. also remember that you can vtec the b20 in the future should it not be enough but you cant double vtec an already vtec b16 now can you?

a b20 has a weaker bottom end than a b18a/b, and if it was driven by a women it wasn't beat and means it probably wasn't given any maintenance either. you know what happens to a motor that's been babied its entire life and then all of a sudden has to sustain a beating? it dies. i know from experience. he can go that route if he wants but i don't really like b20's all that much...the 2.0 is overrated, i've yet to have a b20 pull on me. even my friend who now has a b20 says it doesn't pull like his ls did.
