heres why you shouldnt buy ebay coilover sleeves...
we just had an 99 accord come in today, owner said his coils "broke or something". figured it was one of those special "heated coil" jobs, turns out they are ebay obx coilover sleeves broken in several places, destroyed the shocks as well. makes me glad i spend the extra bucks on ground control....

hard to see in the pic but its got obx stamped on it...

man, my 94 civic rode on ebay coilvovers forever. i had the car before my kid was born, and she'll be 6 next month. the car is still doing great, i see it all the time. i guess some are good, and some are bad. depends on the quality of the metal? idk. i just got some for my hatch, and i'm putting them on tomorrow. i know they don't ride the best, but ehh....
but the thing is you never know what your gonna get from these guys, what metal there using etc. would you trust your kid in a vehicle with this crap, all i can say is atleast the eibach springs in ground control are lifetime warranty, what kinda warranty are you gonna get from 30.00 ebay coilover sleeves....
this is true. i really have nothing to say back to that, lol. i guess its like a crap-shoot using them, your right. but, i used them before, so i figured i'd try them again. if these do break, i will upgrade the right way, but for now, i'll give them a shot and see how it goes with them.
Lets see... how did the tops of the aluminum sleeves get damaged like that? Must have smashed into something, How low was his car did you say?

nope car came in perfect one piece, i thought too accident but no signs, the damage on the sleeves is from the spring breaking collapsing the struts. as for how low look at where the perches are set at....im just saying you get what you pay for, buyer beware...
yeah, cause nothing really would be able to break just by normal every day driving. maybe rally racing in the fields, or dirt roads on a regular basis, or hill hopping. but driving in town, or highway i don't think THAT much stress would be be present.
the car is a 99 accord 2 dr coupe with 20" bling wheels i highly doubt this guy rally races it.....its cheap junk made with cheap metal in china what do you expect....
I highly doubt the springs are to blame...
First hand experience... I have watched eibach springs break.. I have seen honda factory springs break... I have seen ground controls and weapon r's break... In all those cases , the springs were NOT at fault... Too many things could have gone wrong, but most of all, was improper use , or bad installation was to blame... Not only that, with those dubs on his ride, how much suspension travel was even allowed on this accord? Bad suspension geometry?Corrosion?
I wouldnt point the finger at the springs just yet, as the real manufacturer of these springs could have been eibach for all we know... Not too many companies even have the capability to even make springs...

Good for making everyone aware that this COULD happen...wrong to make it seem like it WILL happen to everyone...Both my brother and I have eBay coil sleeves, he's had em for 4 years, I've had em for 2 years, and neither of us have ever had an issue whatever. There was something else that influenced that kind of failure...
idk, if you figure years of road salt (most people don't even bother w basic maintenance, who's going to car about washing off all the under parts of their car each time they drive in the winter??), driving like the car is stock (smashing over speed bumps, hitting pot holes, running over ish, etc.) i could DEFF. see this happing. now, if they did the whole sideways over bumps, avoiding pot holes like a drunk failing to paint between the lines and washed the salt off each time i'd say blame the materials... but either way i agree w o/p, you get what you pay for.
