Default LS/Vtec in EG hatch. Swap Complete!!!! (pics)

Well, after 2 steady days of work, my swap is complete. I am taking it to the shop tomorrow to get my mid-pipe re-welded, and I want to loom my Vtec wiring with a few other finishing touches, but overall it's done.

I also did a auto to manual swap during the engine swap, so it took more time then average. Everything went very smooth, and it fired right up on the first try. Drove it down the street and it runs great. I have a CEL but it's my O2, and I'm going to pick one up tomorrow. The LS throttle cable was too long so I had to fabricate a mount. I will be picking up a 93 manual cable that should fit fine.

Overall, it was fairly easy. I had some good help and did thorough research before I started. Can't wait to drive it more!! WOOT!!!

Here's some pics!!

out of curiosity, what did you do to the Ls/vtec? Did you build it at all or just buy the ls bottom end and then golden eagle kit, b16 head bam done. haha Ive been looking up all the ways to do it (theres a plethora of info to sift from) however all my friends who have had them who did it the above mentioned way never ever had a problem

I actually did not build the engine. My plan was to swap in an LS and go turbo. I'm the guy that UPS destroyed my engine and lost my tranny in transit. So, I went looking for another engine. I found it in PA, drove up and checked it out, and everything was good. The guy sold the complete swap cause he was going K-series. Engine had 215-220 psi on all 4 cylinders and the GSR tranny shifted great, so he pulled it from the car and I went back the next day and picked it up.

The engine is a stock 98 LS bottom end with a 00 SI head. Not sure what kit they used but everything looked very clean. I had to replace a few gaskets but nothing major.

I will know more tomorrow when I get my pipe welded up. Then I will be able to hit Vtec.

Thanks

Thanks. I've been driving the automatic D15 for awhile, so it should definitely be a nice change...

FAQ's has a good write-up.

Some of it was irrelavent since I was dropping in a B-series engine at the same time. If that is the case, then it is extremely easy.

All I needed was:

Pedal assembly
Clutch master
Clutch line
Clutch slave
Shifter linkage
Shifter bushing and bracket
Shifter (great time to get a short, I went with a B&M)
****
Boot
Center console (just bought one, it should be here next week. Auto will work, just doesn't look as nice)

The wiring is simple. I pulled from the link above.

The small shifter boots and pieces I got from www.hondapartsdeals.com . They have nice diagrams that shows all the factory parts.

PM if you have specific questions.

i noticed you didn't switch the transmission frame mount, did you get a custom made mount for that or something?

In picture 4 you can see what appears to be an Innovative Mounts auto > manual trans. mount.

Yes, the mount is actually from ebay. I was hesitant but after inspecting it, it is exactly like an Innovative mount. The construction is good and it has a poly bushing, all for $70.

Both Innovative and Hasport make "auto-to-manual" transmission mounts. They are roughly around $175 or so.

good job on the swap but i would get rid of that header and get something that will actually make power. Even a stock ITR header would out perform that dc

I'm with you. The header came with the swap. It's a pretty shabby piece. The output might be 2".... I'm planning on boosting it, so it won't be on for too long.

Update:

I got the exhaust welded up, which wasn't much, just the clock on the flange was about an inch off. Vtec works like a champ and the engine pulls strong. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I smile every time. It's just been awhile since I drove anything with power.

I got a CEL 10, so I am ordering a new IAT sensor. Runs great but there is a slight hesitation sometimes, hopefully that clears it up.

I also have a loud tick. I adjusted the valves and checked everything out, but it's stilling doing it. It is loud enough to hear while driving. I was thinking a possible sticking injector....but not sure. I did a compression test after taking it for a spin, 220 psi on all 4 cyl.

We shall see....
