OPM LSD..anyone using it
Been looking for a D series LSD that doesn't cost an arm/leg. Saw that OPM modifies the OE diff for a good price. Anyone here used it? Feedback? This would be for a track car that still sees some commuting.
i have it installed in my system. to be honest, im not a good reference since i did not get on the track or autox before installing it. so far, it has worked tho. there are several front end clunks that also mask its effectiveness. it works by locking up the stock spider gears in the diff, similar to a phantom grip but supposedly better in design and construction. but from what i understand, and others will agree, the phantom grip is an imitation on a less than ideal design.
yes I run one in my ITA honda crx....it works great, so far. I have done 12 races this year and still works like a champ. I run in h4 in the honda challenge and ITA SCCA races and it hasn't let me down yet.

I too run the OPM LSD its been in the car 4 years now (Civic EX '95) its gone through countless auto-xs at least 30 track days (SCCA, NASA, and PCA driving schools, track days, and races) and it is (knock on wood) one of the only things I haven't managed to break yet- I highly recommend it- when mine goes it will be replaced by the same....Lyonel
We've been using it on our car for almost 3 years now. Great unit simply because it works. I've also driven for a year another crx that had a quaife. There is a notable difference in how they work. The quaife is always there instantaneously. The opm unit you can sometimes feel it engage. However, for those drivers who use the inside curb often, don't get the quaife unit because although they're virtually indestructible, I've heard that they can blow if you're on the power with one of the drive wheels in the air. (But accidentally a few times I did just that with the quaife and it didn't break. Still I always tried to be careful and not take any chances.) As far as I know, the opm clutch type lsd has no such problems when one drive wheel is in the air. The opm unit is definitely the best deal out there for a quality piece that works. Cool to have you on here James!

So why would you go with this OPM unit over lets say a Kazz for the a difference of maybe $200? Does it not have the same maintenance headaches as the JDM clutch style LSD's?
I ended up going with the Quaife for my CRX. When I was shopping around, the OPM was $670 and the Quaife was $695. For $25 more, the Quaife was a no-brainer. It works awesome.
