Anyone running 235 or 245 series tire on EG/EJ1?
I've seen DC5's running 245's and even an EK hatch running a 255 in the front...
Just wondering what type of wheel offset will allow this? Is it even possible on a 92-95 civic coupe/hatch? Or only on DC5's and EK's?
The wide length of the wheel is a given requirement, but what are the offset requirements? I'd imagine it would have to be less than +30 or so?....
I assume that because I know someone who tried running even a 225 with a 15x6.5 (+35 offset) wheel, and apparently the tire was rubbing with the suspension. (This was on a 93 civic coupe....NOT hatch)
Please discuss how to at least fit a 235, if not 245.

With a +35 offset, if the tire was rubbing on something, they were doing something wrong. I'm running 15x8 +36 with 225/45s and have no issue. The WHEEL was contacting the rear upper control arm at one point, but a little work with the grinding wheel took care of that.
As for 245/255, I don't think it would work without seriously flaring the fenders and/or getting very creative with modifying stuff like the trailing arm. 235 might be able to squeeze in there with an "ok" flare and the right offset. However, you'll also be running a bigger wheel, because I don't think there are any 235/245/255 15" tires.

235/40/17 RA1s are apparently a really effective size for a track tire on some EGs/EKs i guess the height is worth the trade off for those guys. Password:jdm race car is one example of an EK running that size.
there's also the avon cr500 245/40/15, supposedly a kickass tire but too soft for even a 2000 pound civic, it'll wear out extremely fast apparently, it's designed for a 1200 pound caterham running a 15x9 rim.

You are right about the 15" wheel fitment...I should have mentioned it will be 16"...or even 17" since 235's and 245's are easily available for that wheel.
And this would only be for the front...rear is ok with 225 max I'd say

I should've said 15" tires in those widths that are worth the trouble
And yeah, a 235/50 would be pretty tall. The 225/50 V710 has a noticeable effect on gearing, going taller than that would suck, and would limit your ride height.
turdflo, if you really want to do it, I think 17s would be the way to go. 16s have limited size availability, just better than 15s in those widths.
To be a little more helpful, I would think that something right around +30-32 would work. Higher offset than that and you'll probably be rubbing on the spring/shock.

Interestingly, the new 225-50-14 Toyo R888's are about 1/4" wider than the "same" sized RA1's. If the other sizes of R888's are similarly wide and the fact that the R888's want less camber, the wheel offset will have to be in the 40 range to fit properly.
DAmotorsports - do you have any rubbing issues? what about at full lock? Do you run the same in the rear too? what tire and wheel combo? how much neg camber front/rear? I think everyone in this thread would like to see pics and more details about your setup.
the rims are Rota slipstreams, with Toyo R888. i have no rubbing at this time ( i never use full lock ill have to look), as far as the rear i had to adjust the rear part of the inner finder on the back side. the camber is set to race trim and i have not try street trim. i belive im at 2 degs at this time. ill take some pic in a few day and ill put them up i have the car down at this time, because I'm prepping for a 3 hour race next month
On my EG I run 255/40-17's with +45 offset Motegi's with a 5mm spacer and custom fender work.
Prior to fender work, I was able to run 235's without spacers and just a little bit of custom baseball bat rolling done to the fenders.

Post pics PLEASE!
Stock 1.5 deg in the front and 2.5 in the rear. (Will be increasing front this year up to 2-2.5 degs)

Continental does recommend a 9" wide rim for their 255 ContiSportContact 3's. But was told on the side that they would not be concerned if I ran them on my 8" rim.
