Default timing belt jump help

ok i've been searching like crazy...but i built a d15b z6 mini me. went to test drive it and the key on the adj cam gear broke and spun the gear over with out the shaft. wasn't at very rpm maybe 12-1500. but got it retimed and checked the valves with the cover off, all of them seem to be opening and closing the same. but the car idles at like 200 rpm now and lobes. then goes up to about 500 after a while. any suggestions?

Stop running your engine. Take off the head, and check out the damage you did. You jumped timing, and it's now smoking, as well as a noise that wasn't there before. Clearly there is an issue.

ok pulled the head no valves appear to be bent unless i don't know what i'm looking at. all appear to be opening and closing all the way. so any ideas? the main thing its doing is stuttering after applying gas to it. It will start fine then go to accel. or give it gas and it drops to like 200 rpm and tries to die then after a min it will get back to norm.

Sounds like bent valves, sure they're not tweaked? It's not like they're gonna be bent in a right angle or anything... make sure they're fully opening and fully seating.

You can also pour oil or water in the intake and exhaust side when they're closed and see if they're leaking that way.

Any marks on the pistons?

poured oil in them didn't see any leaks. but i adj the valves, they were way too tight i couldn't get a .08 in the exhaust side, as for the intake i don't know the .08 is the smallest i have. cleared up the bogging out, but still have smoke. plan on changing head gasket again to see if it helps, the smoke smells sweet and rich with fuel.

Sweet smelling smoke means burning coolant. It could also be that you just put the head back on, and some residual coolant got in the cylinders when you took it off.

Is your smoke white? If so it's your head gasket, or your head. Compression test it. You can rent a tester from autozone $25

does the spark plug adapter have say an 18mm hex head on it usually they do same thing happened to me and i had to get an 18mm socket and grind it down so i could get it to fit into the spark plug hole it worked really well if you want to try this tell me and i can tell you how to do this it took me about five minutes once i bought a socket that i wanted to grind down.
