Default my motor died...

700 miles left on warranty, she overheated and died. I was just sitting there, waiting for my double-double, talking with my friends and smoke peaked out from the front right corner of the hood. I looked at the temp gauge and saw that it was at it's max. Turned off the car as quickly as I could and 'ca-clunk..ca-clunk...ca-clunk.......ca-clunk....tisssssssss'. We pushed it into the parking lot. We took a look around the bay, noticed that the coolant was dumping on the ground, nothing was coming out of the radiator, and the smoke was clearing. I did not try to start it back up. Acura Roadside was cool and payed for a tow.

So...I'm not a mechanic and never do my own service, which is done regularly. But, people are telling me that it might be that the thermostat might of given up. This is a 100% stock daily driver with no race miles.

What do you think is up? If the engine is in fact dead, will acura buy me a new one?

thanks,
b

I think the dealer "should" cover it under warranty, but they dont always do what they "should" You have not modded it in anyway, and there was no way that you could of altered the Thermo. If they dont cover it fully, they will ask you to split the cost w/ them, I have seen that happen many times.

I have seen them try this as well; DON'T PAY FOR ANYTHING THINKING THEY WILL REIMBURSE YOU!!! once a job is paid for it is impossible to get any money from Acura. Take it to the top if you have to, trust me, you do not wanna pay for even half an engine job from the dealership.

later

they say it might be the thermoswitch on the fans...the sensor isn't reading the temp correctly and it overheated.

What could overheating do to the engine?

It could destroy it. Pistons expand, piston rings snap, etc...

Now they are going to drop the tranny (I reported a "squeaky clutch").

Have acura service centers ever been know to be shady and swap parts? Do I want to know?

Your car is 100% stock and under warranty. Do not even mention paying out of your pocket.. Good luck..
