Default Good Suspension for AutoX

I am looking at what shocks/springs would work well for AutoX. I was thinking from doing some reading on here that these may be nice:

Thanks,

For that price I would get Ground Control coil overs and Koni sport yellow shocks. Lifetime warranty on the Koni's too.

The cheapest I could find that set up for was about 100$ more.

Probably because it asks about suspension for auto-x use.

And I 2nd xalents23's recommendation.

shame shame some of you guys would have given this answer already; just go with what you got.

but to the OP, you need to give us a little bit more info on you and your car.

is it stock?
what model?
are you just starting to autox?
if you've already been doing autox for while, how long?
DD?

some would say just go out there with what you have and get more seat time in(like me). it would help out a lot more if we knew what you were really looking for.

If your just starting out, and the car is a daily driver, I would pick up some good shocks, koni or illuminas, even koni reds if you want to save a few bucks. Run these with some better tires, and run in stock class until you get comfortable.

If youre seasoned, read up on springrates, and go with the koni/ GC combo.

I have been busy, sorry for the delay. The CRX will be almost stock (if you can call it that). Mods are all new bushings all around, MPFI, short ram intake, full exhaust, 4-2-1 headers, high flow cat. Non performance, sound proofing, redone interior, racing seats, 5 point harness.

1989 CRX DX 1.5 D15B2

Yes I am just starting autoX, but not a newbie to driving this way, I am good at heel toe, and other drifting/racing "esk" techniques of driving. My other car is an impreza.

Not exactly a DD I will have this and my impreza, but will drive both pretty equally as often. So I guess it would be considered one. I just don't want to drop 700$ on something. It would also be nice to not feel EVERY bump in the road. If anyone as has ever driven a Subaru Impreza, you know you can hit bad railroad tracks at 80 and almost not feel it. Something like that would be nice.

Thanks,
John

damn dude, with that mpfi swap you are in a different league. if you didn't do the mpfi swap id say STS2(or what ever it's called now)or CSP. you won't be able to run stock class; unless you're just doing it for fun and the region you run in don't care. but with that swap done you might make it into CSP(not to sure on how the backwards forwards stuff works). This is all saying, you won't be running stock class.

oh, the bold that i quoted you. from what i can see, don't be upset if you go to your first event and do horriable. unless you're running a 4.9 final drive i don't see you getting out of 2nd gear with that DX tranny. so all that heel/toe stuff should be left on a road course. and no matter what you say about not being a newbie at driving like this, unless you have some road racing/HPDE experiance you're going to get lost on a autocross course.

don't take this the wrong way, just trying to help out a noob as you say, but just go as you are now. eat your pride and get a instructor to ride along with you. then get that instructor to drive your car. it will be like night and day. the first time you go, don't go to impress anyone. go to learn. spirited driving on regular roads is totally different when comparing to autox.

oh, and have fun. don't be serious the first time out

STS2? CSP? wtF? Also, I am in college and driving Formula SAE cars on tracks worse then this......at higher speeds.....I know those has slicks and wayyy better Power to weight but still.....cmon....same thing with Mini Baja cars....I am not claiming to be a pro, but I know what I am doing.

Also, and suggestions on a good suspension set up for what I mentioned? How good/bad are tokico Blues?

STS2, and CSP are vehicle class' that your car would be put into or fit into.

will if you're already into road racing then this should be a snap. you didn't mention any of your back round in racing, so i just assumed you to be some kid wanting to try out autox.

now to your suspension woos.
tokico blues are okay, but they are considered a oem replacement, just like the kyb gr-2. my advice go up a little bit in price and get the adjustable dampening versions of ether one of them(ie illuminas, agx). you'll be better off in the long run. for springs, can't go wrong with ground control. there are a bunch of combos that you can go with.

what's the price range in your budget?

I know I am a 19 year old talking, but racing/driving stuff seems to come natural to me, I can jump in and just take off and push everything to its limit (in a good way). When I bought my impreza in feb 07 (07 impreza woot ) my dad took me out to teach me to drive stick, I had only riden a dirt bike before this and learned the car in 20 mins and went off.

price range would be 500 max if I could get away with it. 750$ just seems high for a car I bought for 850$ and keep putting money into.

, okay then, and i thought you were serious about the formula thing.

just go as you are then. put your self in CSP class and just have fun.

i say put your self in CSP cause not knowing how some of the guys at your region are like, it best to be in the class closest to what you have done to the car.

so just go out and have fun. try and figure out if you need a suspension or not. you might just need new shocks, and this is all saying for the fact that you are not serious yet.

Well being serious doesn't have much to do with money when I am paying 30k$ a year for school, and unable to get a student loan.....

no, just saying. a lot of guys just do it for the fun. like a weekend track day but cheaper.

if you are having trouble with money just go as you are, and then decide after a couple of events if you really need a set of coilovers, or just a good set of dampers.

cause from what you already have done to the car, it would be great for a stock class. the only problem is that what you did the mpfi swap, and unless the region you want to run with don't care. you are going to be running in a higher class.

and don't get me wrong, i am not straying you different. just saying if you can't afford it don't do it. they're will be other times. plus it'll help you learn how your car handles and what it needs.
