Corbeau Forza seat -FIA Approved?
Corbeau Forza seat -FIA Approved?
I had a chance to sit in one and I actually fit into it, and they are priced pretty cheap, maybe because it's a steel tube design. I'm interested in picking one up because I'm kinda tall for my CRX and I want to place the seat as far back against the cage as possible, which means I can't really get a suitable back brace in there. Are these seats FIA approved? The search isn't working for me but I remember reading somewhere that they lost their approval, but this was several years ago. Their website doesn't answer this question. Does anybody have any experience with this seat? Thanks for reading.

The seat is not FIA approved because it is not properly supported in the back and does not have mounting points to attach to the cage. I have heard of being fabricating a proper brace for mounting the seat to the cage but i dont have any info on what was invovled and what is needed to pass inspection
Okay, I have another question regarding a true FIA approved seat. Can the seat back make contact with the roll bar/cage, placing it as far back as possible? The other seat I was looking at are the OMP TRS seat offered in the Race car in a box package by Safe Drives. http://www.safedrives.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HA%2F741
The advantage of a FIA seat is that it DOES NOT have to make contact with the cage or use a seatback brace.
If the seat is actually going to touch the cage then all you would need for a brace would be some flat steel for load distribution. If you need an inexpensive seat look at some of the dirt track stuff. Cheap and with far better support than a Corbeau.
What sactioning body are you racing with? I'm familiar with a couple of rule sets, and can be more specific.

Well I was going to attend HPDE and auto X events to get some seat time, and then eventually enter some Redline Time Attack events. I dont want to have to replace something later on if I could do it right the first time around. I currently have a $30 plastic off road seat - seen here: https://honda-tech.com/forums/road-racing-autocross-time-attack-19/roll-bar-questions-2516844/ for test fittment. I want to be able to sit as far back as possible which will probably be an eaiser task when I have the proper cage in there.
Looked at your pictures. You need to have bar welded in to attach the harnesses at a safe angle. What you have now will hurt you.
Also most HPDE orginizations require equal restraints for driver and passenger, so you will have to address that issue. You are going to have to have the cage redone for just about any activity that requires one.
Best way would be to redo everyting all at once. Cheapest and quickest would be to get a couple of cheap race seats and put in a harness bar, then redo everything when you get into events that require a cage.

Thanks for the response, just the answers I'm looking for. Are you fimiliar withe the Speed Venture events? Will a instructor be required or is it optional?

i went with speed ventures for my first track event this past january @ buttonwillow. i didnt pay for an instuctor, but was provided with one for one run session. i asked the around and found that speedventures provided an instructor for one session free of charge if its your first time out. enjoy it
If you're just starting out, and have no experience at all, you'll want an instructor. There are so many things you'll never pick up without someone more experienced in the shotgun seat to guide you.
