Please help, noob security questions.
Hello,
I'm new to auto security so I have some questions. I was looking at DEI Viper 5002 (3302V), Viper 3002 (3202V), Clifford Matrix 12.5X and Clifford Matrix 12.2X. I keep hearing about the LCD remote battery dying quickly so I though maybe I should get the LED one instead.
Does the battery die on LEDs as quickly?
I was looking for something with a mile range so the LCD ones have that option. I just want to be notified if my car is being messed with so I would need the 2 way.
Which one do you prefer in comparison to each other?
Do the accessories such as the Vipers 507M Tilt Sensor and the 506T I.T. Audio Sensor work well? Would you recommend getting them as well?
And finally, I guess I will need the backup battery just in case the thief pulls the main battery wire.
Will the backup battery be continuously charged by the main battery while not ins use?
And will the backup battery power all the accessories as well as the alarm, tilt sensor... For how long?
Also, would anyone know of any certified DEI installers in NJ area?
A lot of questions but I really need your help. My car got stolen and I need to upgrade my security system or rather replace it since both of them can't be connected at the same time.
Thank you very much!

DONT go with clifford or viper. please. i have a viper 2 way wit lcd screen and it is junk. i worked at a car audio shop and the best alarm i have seen is autopage. the rf1000 has 1+ mile range, badass remote and they warranty any part that breaks if you buy from an authorized dealer
bllabong thanks for the response. I have read a lot about viper and clifford and a lot of people say those are good systems. Just wondering why your opinion is different. Did you have a bad experience or did the units break often?
Thanks
Thanks
LCD remotes will use more battery power than regular old remotes, because the battery has to power the display as well. I'm not sure exactly what the average lifetime difference is however.
Keep in mind that the mile range is probably only line of sight, so if you are in a building, the range is cut down dramatically.
The backup battery only powers the alarm if the regular battery is cut, so it does not need to be continuously charged. When a thief cuts the regular battery in an attempt to stop the alarm from going off and the alarm is still going off due to the backup, the thief is most likely deterred at this point. The life of a backup battery depends on how many things are being powered by it. It only needs to last long enough to deter a potential thief though...
Any DEI accessories should work well, but not all of them are necessary to have a secure car. The tilt sensor is probably a good one to have.
As far as the viper thing goes, my bro has a viper alarm from 8yrs or so ago and it still works. The remotes still work as well.

Thanks for the info mrdeadman!
So will the battery power not just the alarm but the tilt sensor and proximity sensor if i have them installed?
Also, why I mentioned the battery recharging is if the battery gets used a few times due to thieves then the battery might be low on charge. I thought how it worked was the main battery charges the backup while powering the alarm so if the battery is low on charge it will be recharged by the main battery. I just want to know if I need to replace the backup battery or will it be recharged by the main battery.
Thanks again.

If your battery is cut the siren goes off and your backup battery powers it. It doesn't need to really power anything but the siren because as soon as the regular battery is cut the siren is triggered.
I would recommend to install the alarm yourself if you are somewhat familiar with electronics and your car. This way you can do a "stealth" install. Most dealers that I know of just put the alarm brain up under the dash and this is about as effective as a club.
i have a viper system on my car and the remote is junk. its an older 2 way model with the blue pager key fob and you cant even see the info that it displays anymore. The shop that i worked at only sold autopage alarms and it is by far the best stuff i have delt with. they are the only company i believe to have a warranty on the remote and they have a life time warranty i believe on the rest of the parts. higher models from the 727 and up are able to add pressure sensor(unbeatable, if the pressure changes from a center punch you wil know) and a tilt sensor(if someone tries to jack your rims). they also have c3 which lets you track your vehicle from your cellphone or your computer. you download a application to your phone and it is very impressive.

The back up battery is allways being charged by the car charging system. It will allways be fully charged and ready to use. The life of the back up battery depends on how many times it is drained to a flat discharge. If you leave your main car battery for a week unplugged and the car armed, The alarm will suck the life out of the back up battery. This will cause problems.
First dei alarms are not junk. There warranty is one of the best out there. And both companies do not warranty any abuse to the remote. So if you break it. You fix it. They will warranty any defect of there own workmanship. Also both companies use the same company to make there screens for the remote. Panisonics

Thanks very much for the help wrx. Do you have a recommendation on which one i should get. I hear the lcd rmotes break easier or people have more problems with them. Would the viper led 2 way one be ok?
Thanks again.

Autopage is a great company. Have solid units too. But there controler to me looks more cartoonish and cluttered. But thats just me. There is nonething wrong with the company. I installed autopages alarms to. I not a dealer but I get a nice price on them. I never had no big issues from them. If you are a noob then the instructions are not for you. There new gps is really great so thats a big plus for the company.
I not going to do a sit down and do a review in your thread with a Dei vs. autopage. Its not needed. As I said both companies make great products. Choice what fit your budget and fits your needs. Choice if you like the look of the dei models or autopage. If you break the remote of either both companies you will pay both companies to replace them. There not going to give you a free one under warranty for your fault period. Do not listen to "bllabong89" he is all ready walking a fine line here with 39 post.
Remember a alarm is as only good as the install. Install is key. Both will protect your car if the install is up to par!
I've never used an Autopage, but I will never leave my Viper 5900. I get godly range on it [I can tell with the mile difference], the remote dies after a month [big deal by a new AAA], the LCD remote tells me WHAT got triggered, and just simple things you can change on the remote that makes it so awesome. I like setting it to vibrate while I'm in class. That way I don't like jolt up and run out the door cause something went BEEEEEEEEEP. =P
Thanks for the input. I was actually looking at the Viper 5002. It looks just like the Viper 5900 but I can't seem to find the 5900 on the DEI web site. Is the 5002 and 5900 the same product?
Thanks!
Thanks!
if you cand find a compustar dealer i would go with that. in my opinion i think they are better than vipers ive had both. the 2ways are better because you can see what part of the car is being opend or tampered with. you can preserve the battery by programing the system to not constantly page back and forth. with my compustar i go through a batter about ever 3-4 months maybe a bit faster in the winter because im using it to start my car more but with the viper i usually can push about a month and a half maybe 2 months out of it and obviously less time in the winter. the 5002 is last years model, and the 5900 is the new model with the new key fob style remote. i have heard that new 5900 is pretty sick i was thinkin about gettin one to try it out.
yeah they have a whole line up like viper. keyless systems, one button starters, one way starters, 2way starters, 2way starter/alarms. http://www.compustar.org/ personally i think they are easier to put in but thats prolly because ive been installing them for 3 years and jus recently went to another shop that puts in viper.
